September 3 08

We survived the first day of school. we survived the first night of homework (i know, right? who gives homework on the first day of school? there’s no way that should be legal!) and HUZZAH! i survived my first carpool line. school ended at 4. i was there, bright and early at 3:30, and there were SWARMS of moms who had been there since 3. THREE! it was a hot, sweaty, annoying experience. i went in with a game plan, though. i told Emily where i’d be standing. she spotted me and rounded up the other four kids. skippy. only, um, 10 more months of this?!?!

i think i hear the bus calling….

Emily likes her teachers. “um, my teacher! she’s new! and so young, mommy, like younger than you! and she never yells. she couldn’t even if she wanted to. and she’s totally married because she’s mrs. and not miss. and she was wearing a really cute outfit!” Joshua (he’s now Joshua. not Josh. not Joshie. he’s a big old grown-up first grader) likes his teachers “um, yeah. sure.” the difference between boys and girls.

Emily was up at 6. dressed and with the flat iron in her hand. Josh was barely ready for carpool. Emily says to me

“mommy, did you know that J.crew had kid’s clothes?”

“why yes, Emily i was aware. i didn’t think that YOU were.”

“mommy, i need a cashmere argyle sweater for school or i’ll die.”

“well, then you’d better put it on your chrismukah list. grammy likes you way better than i do anyway.”

only $148.

(definitely the difference between girls and boys. josh would wear his super mario bros. t-shirt every single day to school if i’d let him.)

i don’t like her that much. heh. i DO, though, like her enough to spend $1200 on a 24×24 photo of her and her siblings. which, i’m sure, when we get it back, she’ll decide that she doesn’t like her hair, face, smile, teeth….something. because she’s a teenager. in a 7-yeaer-old’s body.

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…
duh nuh nuh nuh. clap, clap. duh nuh nuh nuh. do do do do…

love it? hate it?
catch the Hannah Zuckerman-Vasquez cameo? catch on to the fact that Silver was Erin Silver right away? love or hate the Kelly and Brenda reunion. and NAT! nat! yay!

  1. I loved it and I totally caught the Hannah cameo. The Brenda and Kelly reunion felt a little awkward.

  2. I totally had to blog on this too and so far my comments are next to none. Makes me feel like a loser. Assholes.

So I was relieved to see you went for it also… 🙂

I thought it was better than I was expecting… there’s lots of layers to the characters, it will definitely be a little more risque than the first version, but hey, the times, they are-a-changin.’

I’m not so keen on seeing Brenda back, that was definitely just to bring a little media attn to the show, but I hear she’s only supposed to be in 4 episodes.

sigh… my PVR hates my life and apparently my husbands “Holmes on Homes” was more important than my teenage dreams coming true via 90210

  9. This is why I crave a daughter – to get some after school conversation already!

    OK – the meat:

Totally caught the Andrea Zuckerman-Vaquez thing, and the little “What is she? 30?” jab by the teacher, who looked like the students, I thought. I was sort of uncomfy with the Brenda and Kelly reunion. It could have been that I was wishing I could have Kelly’s haircut and that Brenda looked, how shall I say it….rough? Too many boys who all look alike to figure out names yet. Did you see Kelly and Silver’s mom is on next week? I say let’s start a letter writing campaign to get a little Brian Austin Green action on that show, pronto!

I’m up in the air on the love/hate thing, but I’m leaning toward love. And not just because of the implied oral sex 4 minutes in. This is new school BH Niner, my friend!

  12. I can’t decide if 90120 was so bad that it’s good, or so bad that it was just awful.

High points (maybe we should just call them points):

Rob Estes? Now what are you doing in a melo-drama? Shocking!

As Heather B. put it, the token black kid. Painful.

Love that freaking sweater, I can see why Emily would love it. Maya is the same way. Expensive ass children. Buying her clothes for fall and school took way more time and patience than I thought should be necessary for freaking second grade school shopping.

Also. That sweater is adorable. Before I had my baby I would have said that is a ridiculous amount of money. Now not so much. I’d just have to buy it on the credit card that my husband doesn’t open the statement for.

I think things moved a little too quickly too, but I will be watching anyway…. Loved the Hannah cameo and the jab too – funny. And Brenda, poor Brenda..looks a little too…facelifted? Boob jobbed? Tanned? I dunno..too something!

  40. I don’t think I like myself enough to spend that much money on a sweater. And I’m not even going to outgrow it. Unless I keep eating like I’ve been eating. Some of us did not get to see 90210 because the Cubs decided to go into extra innings and the damn show didn’t come on until midnight. I will stay up late to see half-naked swimmers. Not angsty teens and Kelly Taylor.

But I did just finally finish watching it on my DVR. I liked it. People need to remember that it is meant for teens. It isn’t meant for us this time around.

And also? The best line of the whole episode was when Andrea’s kid was on and that teacher was all “what is she like 30?” BRILLIANT.
