September 2 08

this morning my coworker Laura came over to my desk. I was sipping my iced coffee, Nancy Botwin style

and she did a little happy dance.

why, you ask?

because it’s the day after labor day. my favorite day of the whole year. it’s everyone’s favorite day of the year!

the day the backpacks come out (Wall-e for the boy. Adidas pink and brown – because, duh, characters are so not cool for grade 2ers mom – for the girl)

the day i officially have a second grader. and a first grader.

hold me.

(in canada it’s called a grade two-er and a grade one-er. barf)

it was a big weekend leading up to the day after labor day.

we all tried a little yoga

we all breathed a sigh of relief as my son went from this:

to this:

we swam. twice. we bbq’ed. twice.

i donned a bikini. the same one that one of the survivors is wearing this season. (and it looks WAY better on me. heh)

i got my favorite heel STUCK in my vent in my hallway. i swear. i even had to take the vent OUT of the floor and use TOOLS to try to get it out. things that happen ONLY to Ali part #546.

i re-enacted the great Ali-meets-her back door caper of 2008.

i finished this:

and decided there’s an etsy store in my future.

and now..i sit back…and enjoy my iced coffee. and my favorite day of the year.

until 4:00 when i have to go and brave all the competimommies in the freakin’ carpool line.

-
  1. Rest up. That first carline is a bitch.

The kids are seriously the cutest (next to mine, duh) ever.

I wish you luck in the parent pick-up endeavor. I haven’t done it for a year. The post-traumatic sress of it still gives me the shakes. Vive la bus!

I met some of them at jk orientation. Who knew you had to arrive early to sign up for meeting the teacher at your preferred time???

  17. First day for our kids, too…three cups of coffee (none of which had to be microwaved to reheat due to consumption interruptus) and now, a sugarfree Red Bull. You’d think with the stimulation I’d be accomplishing tasks galore, but nyet…blog screening and loving the pictures of your beautiful similarly school-bound brood.

    Love your blog…will be back!
