Indiana is getting better every day. He really is. He is eating, even though he’d prefer to eat the chicken and rice and all the other fanciness my stepmom spoiled him with while we were away…potatoes, yams, carrots, apples. He is pooping, even though he’s prefer to do it, um, inside the house. He is not lethargic  anymore, even though he’d prefer to spend those excitable hours at, oh, um, between 2 and 4 in the morning. so, essentially I have a newborn…he can drive you batty and exhaust every bone in your body and force you to clean up his poop but you don’t really give a rat’s ass because HE IS HERE AND HE IS ALIVE…and you just want to sing from the rooftops or the Austrian mountains how blissfully happy you are.

maria

as long as it’s not that song from Rent. That one with all the stupid numbers. The one Emily hasn’t been able to stop singing. Who in the hell taught that song to my daughter? I’ve never even seen Rent. I think the biggest problem with her singing this song allthelivelongday is that I don’t entirely hate it. and I hate Rent on principle.

the same way I hate the whole pomegranates-are-taking-over-the-world thing

and camping

and tea

and taking baths

and Indian food

and fake tans

and chunky peanut butter

and Dancing with the Stars

and poker

and Lord of the Rings

and mojitos.

I just do. but if I actually gave these things a chance, I would most likely actually, you know, like.

(Fine, I DID take a bath once and seriously enjoyed it…even though it totally goes against my feelings about getting wet)

(I still hate showers)

It could be Lightning Crashes (although, you know, the whole placenta falling to the floor bit isn’t exactly the most uplifting of songs to be singing from the rooftops). but, my god, I may have finally found a radio station in Atlanta that doesn’t  play a constant Nickelback loop. and even though it’s kind of confusing because it’s called 99x, but it’s on 97.9 (WHAT?) which makes absolutely zero sense to me, but it does play music I like…and plays all the good old shit I loved in high school, and, you know, still like. Pearl Jam, Bush, STP, Collective Soul, Oasis…and, of course, Live. which, you know, sends me back to a time of oversized flannel and doc martens and mini-backpack purses and matching socks and scrunchies. and, as someone who knew me back then cleverly pointed out on facebook – – – overalls.

oh hell, did I love those overalls.

like you never.

whatever. at least they weren’t McHammer pants. or fanny packs. or pants with stirrups.

which I not only hate on principle; I hate because, my god, stirrups.

  1. Ali, you are hilarious. I too had overalls that I *seriously* loved. IKEDA overalls. And matching scrunchie/sock sets.

And, wow, I thought the constant Nickelback loop was just a feature of Alberta because, you know, they’re *from* here so at least there’s a reason, however lame, for playing them. ALL. THE. TIME.

  2. if she’s going to sing a number song all day can we teach her 867-5309/Jenny?

Also, Rent scene from Team America – great!

Also, at least they weren’t Zubaz(still fashion couture on the streets of Buff, NY)!

  3. I hated Dancing With The Stars on principle alone for the longest time. Then, a few seasons in and I gave it a try because nothing else was on. I’m now hooked.

  4. they had cancelled 99x, and it was off air. another station got it’s spot. so now that they are back on the radio rather just online, they retained the name despite the new spot. i like that station too. though, despite the fact that they play way too much tom petty and u2, i like 92.9.

    agreed. enough nickleback already!!

  5. Oooh I love Lord of the Rings AND chunky peanut butter = heaven. At least it did, until I married someone allergic to peanuts. My one talent of making fabulous peanut butter cookies has gone to WASTE.
.-= Katie´s last blog ..Rolling the ball, trying to spell, and no I’m not on drugs. Yet. =-.

  6. I don’t play or watch or think about poker*, basically because I know I would end up moving to Vegas thinking I could win myself a million dollars. Like Jennifer Tilly. Only less (fake) tan.

*Though I very much wish Bravo would revive their “Celebrity Poker” series, because it was so addictive and hilarious and of course I LOVED IT.

  7. Five hundred, 25 thousand, 600 minutes…

Thanks. Now I have it in my head. And that’s ALL I know of the song.

I think we should go out for mojitos when I’m there. If they are made right, they are TASTY!

Comment by Kristabella on September 23, 2009
  8. Ha! All the stuff you hate, I love (except fake tans and DWTS, I hate ’em too).

And I was just thinking the other day how I rocked this pair of overalls in college. Like thought I was the bomb in them. And then I look back at pictures and think no wonder I wasn’t getting any. Who the hell would want to shack up with a shapeless girl wearing overalls, a flannel over it, birks and her hair in a red scrunchy? Dirty hippies, that’s who 🙂

  9. Why 99x is on 97 and Q100 is on 99 is all very confusing. Then, I had to gt a car with XM and I have to pay for it because 3 minutes of Atlanta radio and I want to shoot myself.

I hate baths. Nothing like sitting in a cesspool of your own filth and sweat.

I’m going to have to go find some tunes now. 525,600 minutes is going to be running through my head ALL. DAY.LONG.

Comment by Karen on September 23, 2009
  10. I was really hoping you would make list at least 524,600 things you hate.

Comment by Libby on September 23, 2009
  11. The thing about Live was as amazing a disc as Throwing Copper was, the one that came next was as awful a CD as I’ve ever heard.

Comment by SciFi Dad on September 23, 2009
  12. I want to have that station to listen to. My choices are top 40 repeating station or country.

    Can I move to Atlanta?

  13. You had me as a reader as soon as you said I hate mojitos and pomegrantes taking over the world.
    Thank god.
If you also happen to hate watermelon , well I don’t know what I ll do with myself.

Comment by Ashley on September 23, 2009
  14. OMG I had the best pair of overalls ever.

  15. I love that you hate LOTR too. Although we may come to blows over chunky peanut butter.

Comment by Avitable on September 23, 2009
  16. Avitable, I hate LOTR on principle, too! We should all start a club. Ali, do you hate Rent THE PLAY, Rent THE MOVIE, or the entire Rent millieu? Because I have fond memories of the play, but the movie IRKS.

Comment by metalia on September 24, 2009
  17. Be glad you moved. Zeller’s is selling Hanna Montana stirrup pants.

Now the question is…did you roll the bottoms of your overalls too??

Comment by mapsgirl on September 24, 2009
  18. I saw Nickelback in TO. Live opened up for them. I kept asking my husband “who” was opening up for them. He’d say “live” and I was all “I know it’s live, it’s a freaking concert…” Yeah. I had no idea who they were. Only knew one of their songs. Not a big fan.

You should give some of those things on your list a try…indian food and chunky peanut butter are yummy. Mojitos are gross — unless you like green mint leaves stuck to your teeth!

Comment by Cindy on September 24, 2009
  19. Chunky peanut butter should be outlawed.

However, Rent. See the musical not the movie. You know, if you ever give in. ‘Tis awesome.

Comment by Just Shireen on September 24, 2009
  20. What about those damn body suits… you know, the ones that snapped in the crotch like onesies????

Comment by Sarah on September 25, 2009
  21. so curious about what your dislike for Rent is about. I love the play, don’t mind the movie, but I also totally understand disliking something purely on principle (hello–country music!), so I’m intrigued.
