The Baby· The Boy· The Girl

27 Sep

yesterday the husband and i went to Here’s My Baby for our private viewing and order session (sounds fancy, doesn’t it?!!). They are incredibly clever, those folks at HMB. They sit you in a giant room, with giant walls that hold giant portraits of beautiful children.

then, they dim the lights and put on a slideshow presentation, set to music – in this case, True Colors – on a giant viewing screen. and then they proceed to show you the 100 most gorgeous pictures of your children. overwhelming to say the least.

we went in knowing exactly what we were buying. This, in theory, was simple. This, in actuality, not so simple. you want to buy each and every one of the photos. and you want to buy them in 40×40, at least.

and those clever people try to convince you that you NEED to buy the giant portraits of your beautiful children (because, seriously, what kind of parent are you if you don’t buy the lifesize portraits??). It’s a good thing I had the husband with me. He’s the realist. I’m the sucker. I would have spent the grand that you needed to spend to take home the slideshow presentation (because, then, honey, you get to have them all!).

We didn’t get out of there cheap, to say the least. and i won’t divulge (i’ll just tell you it was more than $600 and less than $1,000). and you’ll have to wait until November to see the less-than-stellar scans i’ll be posting online…but until then i’ll leave you with two little green monsters (the third monster slept in this morning and missed the photoshoot):

That happened to us with our engagement pictures. We saw a photographer at a bridal show and were amazed with her work. Then we looked at her prices…”wedding packages STARTING at $4000.00!” OUCH! Turns out we won some drawing from the bridal show for a $250 gift card for this awesome photographer. So we went there for our engagement photos and still spent a couple hundred after the gift card on prints and proofs. It’s not nice for them to show you your pictures on that big pretty screen and make you want to buy every last one of them just so you can hold them in your hands! But that’s what we did. Because we just couldn’t resist.

So cute. we won a session with a professional photgrapher last year. He came to our home. Thankfully it was all free. But we have never looked so good EVER. We looked like a hip cultural New York rich family with an edge. So not the reality. No price to expensive for that….can’t wait to see the photos…

aaack…. I probably would’ve bought the maximum package too if my husband was not around. Boy they are smart aren’t they! I just know I’m a sucker for all things that has to do with my kids.

Cute monster pics! And thanks for coming by my blog. I will be visiting here often 🙂

Wow… more than six bills? Just curious, in that price range what did you get? Are we talking a mammoth number of sheets, many different configurations (each child alone, pairs, all three), et cetera?

We haven’t gone the professional route ourselves, but we get portraits done at the local grocery store (believe it or not, they’re not half bad).

there are no packages and these portraits don’t come in sheets. they are amazing!!!

and it’s like $50 for a 5×7, so you can imagine how it adds up.

i take my kids – normally – to the supermarket also – i pay $24.95 and get a TON of sheets and, especially if you print them in sepia – they come out awesome.

but there’s no comparing. these are truly works of art! they are gorgeous. i can’t wait to get them!

I was offended when Beth suggested we have professional pics done. Then I realized she wanted me to be in them and that the photographer was a friend. Still, we spent a lot but they turned out great.

My mother-in-law makes us get these incredibly fancy family portraits taken, where you wear tuxes and velvet and the photog retouches everybody to make them look slimmer and pinker in the cheeks. I’m sure they’re incredibly expensive, and to me they are creepy, like we are The Royal Family and not a bunch of scrubs, as reality suggests. But she loves them and we do what we do for in-laws. Personally, I’ve yet to even take my kids to Target and I feel waaaay behind.

I just picked up professional photos of the kids last week and they turned out really beautifully (apart from the fact that Miranda wasn’t smiling LOL). Taken against a white background (no props, I am SO NOT a “baby in the basket” mama). Yes I spent a fortune – $500, but we got loads of photos and I am waiting on the huge wall size one to come in as well.

Ali, can’t wait to see your photos.

You’re so good at getting photos done. I still have a pre-paid set of HORVATH photos to do….I went as far as leaving a message saying I want to schedule something….I never called back. Must get on that.

    The pics are fadorable! 😉

Ahhh, sooo adorable!! WHAT?! You didn’t get the lifesize picture? What kind of parents are you, is right! Just kidding! Man! So, that’s why we never went to a photographer with the kids. Wow! Can’t wait to see the photos though.

    Peace prize to Bangladeshi
It would have been more charitable — and certainly a lot easier — just to give the poor woman book sport money. But instead, Muhammad Yunus lent her $27. “Charity is not the answer to poverty,” Yunus wrote earlier this year. “It only helps poverty to continue. It creates dependency and takes away the book sport initiative to break through the wall of poverty.”
