September 27 06

not in any order:

1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest – Nicholson’s first Oscar win. and i missed it. i can’t believe it. and he can sell crazy like no one’s business.

2. Superman the Christopher Reeve version. not the crap that’s out now.

3. Kramer vs Kramer – it’s Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep. need i say more?

4. Die Hard – any

5. Lethal Weapon – any

6. Clockwork Orange – it’s classic Kubrick. there’s no excuse. at least not a good one.

7. Braveheart – i know, i know. you don’t have to tell me.

8. Dances With Wolves – Kevin Costner doesn’t do it for me. he should have stopped at Field of Dreams. but this sucker won 7 Academy Awards. i should have seen it.

9. Blazing Saddles – Badges? We don’t need no stinking badges. ’nuff said.

10. Alien – everybody has seen this. everybody but me.

11. The Accused – I will never live this one down. it lost me the game of Trivial Pursuit because i’d never seen it. actually, i’d never even heard of it.

12. Rocky IV – i have seen the first Rocky. so that’s a start, i guess. but still, everyone says this one’s the best.

13. The Passion of the Christ – now this one is simply embarrassing. I wanted to see it when it came out. and i still want to see it.

***anyone else notice the abundance of Mel Gibson movies in this list?? hmmm..i wonder if it’s coincidental.

  1. Haven’t seen 6 & 13 but all of the others.

It’s ok – I haven’t been out to the movies in 12 MONTHS!!! (Unless you count kiddie movies, which I don’t :((() I am the DVD queen!

Comment by Heidi on September 27, 2006
  2. I maintain, you are SO good at this. you’re making me want to do Thursday Thirteens again….

Among all of the above, I’ve seen, 5, 6, 7, 12. I’m embarrassed to say I haven’t seen the rest of them. I also am embarrassed to say i never saw “The English Patient,” and most of the Academy Award nominated movies from last year (cuz of the monkey…).

    Comment by haley-o on September 28, 2006
  3. 1,2,4,5,9,10, and 12 for me. I am a bit embarrassed about Kramer, Clockwork, and Wolves, though. I keep meaning to see Passion, but then I keep putting it off. I hear it’s such a hard film to watch. Love DIE HARD. One of my favorite movies. Alan Rickman is excellent in it. And the first Rocky is the best. Four is pretty bad, IMO.

Comment by Diana on September 28, 2006
  4. Well, I’ve seen some of these, and would re-rank the priority order as: definitely try to see 1, 3, 5, 6, and 9. But for good vintage Mel Gibson, try to get your hands on Gallipoli – he was so gorgeous when he was like 19 or so and unknown…
I haven’t actually seen any of those above in something like 20 years so they may not have aged so well as that. I’m thinking Clockwork Orange may be very strange, and I forgot all about the kid in K vs K – but the parents are delightful. Sort of like the War of the Roses, but more thoughtful.

Comment by Alethea on September 28, 2006
  5. I haven’t seen 1, 6, 9 and 13. (I LOVE Mel Gibson movies.)

Comment by TC on September 28, 2006
  6. The Accused is hard to watch. There is a really brutal rape scene in it, but the story is really good. A Clockwork Orange is one of my favorites, I watched it for the first time back in high school. If you had to watch one first – I say, watch Braveheart.. so, so, good.
    I haven’t seen #1 either!

Comment by bella ~ Liz on September 28, 2006
  7. Sigh. I haven’t seen any of those either. To top of my list I would have to add The Wizard of Oz. I know.

Comment by Elizabeth on September 28, 2006
  8. i love # 2, 3, 4 and 5… would love to watch # 13 too, but just haven’t found anyone with a DVD to borrow from.

    hopping from TT.

Comment by JO on September 28, 2006
  9. Only one I haven’t seen is The Accused.

Don’t be scared off by The Passion; just make sure you have a decent sized TV to be able to read the subtitles (unless, of course, you are able to comprehend Aramaic).

Comment by Jeff on September 28, 2006
  10. 1, 3, 4, 6, 11, 12, 13 for me. But SHAME, SHAME on you for not seeing Braveheart!! That is, hands down, one of Gibson’s best movies EVER. Haven’t seen the Passion; I’d rather read the Book (hubby agrees, and his parents said they don’t want to watch it again).

Word of advice on THE Superman movies: skip #3. They tried to act like it didn’t happen and picked up with #4 kinda where #2 left off. 3 was bad. Really bad.

I don’t get to watch many first-run movies anymore because of four little monkeys, the youngest of whom is just under 2 years. We watch a lot of Wiggles, though!

Comment by Melissa on September 28, 2006
  11. I ALSO never saw Braveheart and I get such crap for it from so many people – want to watch it sometime?

Comment by Aimee on September 28, 2006
  12. i’m glad to know not alone in this…

Aimee – let’s 100% watch it. let me know when’s good for you. i’ll get the fro yo. or the starbucks. or the sushi..mmm…sushi…

Jeff – i’m totally unafraid of subtitles, and actually quite like them sometimes. at times, embarrassingly, i turn on subtitles on English movies so i don’t miss anything. i know, i’m such a loser!

Haley – i loathe the English Patient. i was actually just talking to someone about it the other day. it’s the only book i couldn’t make it through to the end. and the movie? just as brutal. blech.

Comment by amartell on September 28, 2006
  13. I’ve seen 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, and 13, but then I had a job at Blockbuster in college, and movie rentals were free.

I did a movie list today, too! Happy TT!

Comment by Sadie on September 28, 2006
  14. I have only seen Passion and Braveheart. All the others I also need to see.

Comment by Erica on September 28, 2006
  15. You’re definitely not the only one who hasn’t seen some of those movies. I haven’t seen 3, 6, 8, 10, 11, 12, or 13!

You definitely need to see the original Superman. It’s great, as is Superman II. And Blazing Saddles is hilarious! 🙂

    Happy TT. 🙂

Comment by Caylynn on September 28, 2006
  16. Tsk! Tsk! I think amovie night’s comin’ one.

    (And I hate Costner, too!)

    Have a great Thursday!

Comment by shannon on September 28, 2006
  17. Girl, you have some movies to watch! Braveheart is one of my favorites. Don’t waste your money on Passion of the Christ unless you feel like seeing someone tortured and flayed alive. I thought it was horrific and missed what Christ is supposed to be about, love and compassion. I think it was a completely pointless movie.

Comment by buttercup on September 28, 2006
  18. I haven’t seen some of those either … a couple I’ve never even heard of, so don’t feel too bad!

The movies I get a lot of grief about not seeing are the 2nd and 3rd Lord of the Rings. I saw the 1st one, but it didn’t do much for me, so I’m in no hurry to see the others.

Comment by Audrey on September 28, 2006
  19. I have no desire to see Passion of the Christ… what does that say about me?

Comment by JB on September 28, 2006
  20. it’s not so much a desire thing, for me at least. i feel like it’s one of those movies that i should see once, just to see. i like to see things that have lots of hype that go with them – good or bad.

for example, i want to read “a million little pieces.” simply for the hype factor.

Comment by amartell on September 28, 2006
  21. Good idea for a T13. There are a few of those movies that I haven’t seen either but most I have and they are quite good. Hopefully you’ll have a chance to rent them!

  23. Don’t worry. There are a few there I haven’t seen either. You’re not alone.

Comment by Chris on September 28, 2006
  24. Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Braveheart and Passion – I’ve watched them.

Passion of The Christ is just so painful to watch. I cried the whole time.

My TT is up, drop by if u can =)

Comment by Nikki on September 28, 2006
  25. Great list! I am not doing too bad, but you did inspire me to add something to my netflix list.

Comment by Julie on September 28, 2006
  26. Great movies!! Kramer vs. Kramer is one of my all-time favorites! Acting doesn’t get any better than that.

I like Alien because . . . well, spell my name backwards (yes, that’s my real name), and you’ll see.

    Happy TT!

Comment by Neila on September 28, 2006
  27. Quite a few on your list that I haven’t seen. But of all those on your list that I would tell you to see is Braveheart!

Comment by Annie on September 28, 2006
  28. I like most of these films. And I loved the soundtrack to A Clockwork Orange as well as the film. Kind of neat seeing Vader without his makeup.

  30. #2 and #4 are great. For each, the second installment is the best, at least in my humble opinion 🙂

Thanks for visting my TT today.

Comment by Jenny Ryan on September 28, 2006
  31. I’ve seen 6 and not seen 7 so I think you need to move over on that “why haven’t I” bench and make room for me! 🙂 The older I get, the less movies I watch. Not sure why that is.

Thanks for stopping by Snarkypants and cheering me up over my lame post! 🙂

I love the design on your blog – looks GREAT!

    Have a good weekend!

Comment by Lisa on September 28, 2006
  32. I haven’t seen 1, 6, 9, or 13.
Wow! Some of those are oldies but goodies! I need to rent Kramer vs Kramer again… gonna add it to my DVD queue. 🙂

Great list!! Have a super weekend!

  33. The Accused was an amazing movie, but very disturbing. I thought about it daily for about two weeks after watching it. I have banned Mel from my visual pleasure. He’s just an idiot. Not worth my time.

Comment by Lan on September 28, 2006
  34. Lan – have you seen the south park with mel gibson running around in his underwear.

  37. I have not seen 10 out of the 13, and I wasn’t even embarrassed about it. Until now. I also have not seen Pulp Fiction (gasp!) and any James Bond movie (double gasp!).

Comment by The Lurker on September 29, 2006
  38. Well, are you ready for this, I have not seen 1 ,3, 6, 10, 11, 12, or 13 and I’m not embarrassed. I wish I hadn’t seen 7, 8, and 9.

And get this! I have read but not seen “Gone with the Wind”!

  39. If you’re doing Harrison Ford movies, how could you leave out Empire Strikes Back?!?!?!?!?! Han Solo was the hottest thing this 12 year old had ever seen, and he keeps getting better! Other than that, great list girl!

Comment by stephanie on September 29, 2006
  40. steph…wait..what? i’m writing about movies that i HAVE NOT seen. and i have seen the Empire Strikes Back.
and what Harrison Ford movies was i talking about??? are you sure you’re replying to the right post? he!

  41. I saw Braveheart and kind of wish I hadn’t…there was a tough part at the end to watch, I though. And I didn’t see The Passion, either…I figured that since just the Bible account of the crucifixion gets me sometimes, I probably didn’t need to see it.

Know what is my fave one of those Jesus movies? The Miracle Maker. I watch it every Easter.
