January 13 12

This Chinese restaurant completes me.

Even though I didn’t leave my house for the first six days of this year, I have ridiculously high hopes for 2012.

I’m going to watch my kid shine on the stage again. I’m going to skate with my kids on our backyard ice rink. I’m going to run my first race. I’m going to read 62 books. I’m going to wear my new glasses. I’m going to celebrate my year anniversary of being diet-coke free. I’m going to watch my son hit for the cycle again.

I’m going to be Kelly Ripa when I grow up.

I’m going to watch less Jersey Shore and more Parenthood. I don’t really care anymore what The Situation and The Unit have to say about whether or not something happened with Mike and Snooki. But what I do care about is the fact that Christina followed through on a punishment with Max and everyone got all annoyed and they missed out on a big family event, but following through? Important.

I’m going to check out what this giant Downton Abbey fuss is all about (Related: It’s not every day that your in-laws and your internets are abuzz about the same thing.)

I will not buy my 5th grader a cell phone.

I’m going to watch The Packers win another Superbowl.

I’m going to write this awesome piece about vampires vs. werewolves vs. zombies vs. witches.

I’m going to bring back phrases like ‘heavens to Betsy’ and ‘hell’s bells’ and ‘now you’re cookin’ with gas!’ and ‘Cat’s pajamas’

And I’m going to enjoy dessert.

Because the fortune cookie told me to.

What are YOU doing in 2012?

  1. Hopefully…

… becoming a flight attendant based at ATL or RDU.

    … winning a legal battle.

  2. I LOVE Parenthood! Max IS my son. If that is an accurate portrayal of Aspergers then my son has it. And I was so “yes” to Christina with following through, but I could see myself doing it and then feeling all guilty about it. Totally with you on that show. And also not caring about Snooki. It was a trainwreck I couldn’t avoid at first, but am so over it. Love your new glasses BTW.

  3. Losing the last 3 lbs to reach my goal weight (down 12 already FTW!).
Building/stocking a cantina in my cold cellar.
Reading 61 less books than you.
Continue learning to play the guitar.
Telling my wife more often just how much I appreciate her.
Spend more time basking in the glow of my 3 wonderful kids.
Check 2 more places off our ‘to visit’ list… L.A. and either Ireland or New Orleans.

  4. I’m going to attempt to let things go. I’m going to try to enjoy things when they’re in front of me. I’m going to try to see the awesome in myself. Most of all though, I’m going to learn to breathe deeply. And really, if that’s all I get done, I’ll be thrilled.

Parenthood is a great show. :)

  6. I’m going to not buy my 5th grader a cell phone either. I’m going to attempt to have a baby. I’m going to try to start a business with my parents. I’m going to have fun adventures with my kids. I’m hopefully going to see my best friends in a few months. I’m going to go on my first cruise next Christmas with my entire family. I’m going to watch my mom and step-dad re-new their vows. 2012 is going to be exciting.
