did you miss me? so much has happened over the last few days. where to even begin?

shall we start with the fact that my little monster has learned that she is able to get out of her big girl bed? fuck me…she’s totally done with that whole sleeping thing…which, lucky me, means that i’m pretty much done too

shall we start with the fact that somehow my mom navigated herself onto my website and was disturbed by the fact that I used the term ‘sweet jesus’ in my post? if she only knew…

shall we start with the movie i went to on sunday night – Across the Universe – which I thoroughly loved…if only for the fact that Bono makes a lovely little cameo. and sings. *swoon*?? The three people i was with did not like it as much…so uncultured, they are!! (ha…not really…i guess we just weren’t expecting it to be The Beatles-meets-Moulin Rouge. but, again, Bono?!?!?! (even if he did look slightly Robin Williams-ish)

shall we start with the fact that i went into work this morning – on Thanksgiving – and got booted out of the system and had to come all the way home?

shall we start with this???? I haven’t taken it off in an entire week. and i’m so not even joking.

shall we start with the new post i’ve got up at Fabulous?

Shall we start with the thank yous to my guest posters while i was away?? you were all truly fantastic. hugs and lovely make-out sessions coming your ways! with tongue. pinky swear.

um, let’s start with a conversation.

him: “so, i’m thinking of taking your mother away for our 25th wedding anniversary.”

me: “nice! so, where in Europe are you going this time?”

her: “oh, Ali, don’t be silly. we’d never go to Europe. Everybody in Europe hates Jews.”

me: “everybody, eh? doesn’t seem like a generalization there…”

her: “it’s really the state of affairs over there.”

me: “that an entire continent is jew-hating? Also, didn’t you go to Italy last year?”

her: *rolls her eyes*

him: “Why would you guess Europe?”

me: “because you aren’t really the lie on the beach type. and you aren’t really the hiking type.”

her: “I like to hike!”

me: “oh yeah? when’s the last time you hiked?”

her: “I like to hike!”

me: “That wasn’t my question.”

her: “We did a lot of hiking the last time we were in New York!”

me: “Mom, walking from your hotel on 55th street to a restaurant on 57th street is NOT hiking!!!!”

her: “It sure felt like hiking to me…”

me: “So, where are you going??”

him: “We’re thinking Spain, probably.”

Interesting. Spain. that’s in Europe, right?

yeah…that pretty much sums up my entire week…

  1. Ah parental love. So sweet. So pure. So damn frustrating!

Can I say long live the crib?! Can I just keep the Peanut in it until university?

  2. One of my friends who travels a lot is extremely freaked out by how rabidly and openly anti-Semetic much of Europe is becoming. Not good.

And on a lighter note: that is COMPLETELY WHY The Baby is still in her crib – stay PUT, kid!

  3. Sounds like a week.
The other day a friend told my sister she was sending her son to Europe, in particular Australia. My sister was like “Oh … Austria”? Nope. Australia.
So, last night at dinner my sister said “has Australia become part of Europe?”

  5. Your mother found your website? Your actual mother, and not some LOSER posing as her? :) You are living the nightmare. Should we all be looking forward to an address change?

  6. I’m with your mother on the hiking. If it makes me out of breath and it covers a greater distance than from the couch to the fridge, it’s hiking.

  8. My parental units read my site too. They just don’t talk to me about it and I don’t think they even realize that I know that they do read it. Sigh. That’s why you’ll never see me post about them….

I want that hoody. Where did you get that hoody? Share! Share!

    Hope this weeks starts better.

  9. hi Ali glad you’re back.aww parents they sure are fun sometimes.i know it sucks when they figure out that they can get out of their beds on their own

  10. That’s why there are no immediate plans to get my almost 2-year-old into a real bed. The other two were almost 3 when we moved them… they’re more responsive to threats and bribes at that age.

Your parent story reminded me of something my mom once said. When I suggested a vacation in Italy or Spain, as opposed to their annual beach vacation, my mom said, “I don’t like going where they don’t speak English. Third world countries don’t really appeal to me.” Parental love, indeed.

  11. GREAT post, Ali! LOvE that hoody!! I can’t believe your mom found it! How on Earth?!? And, I so want to see that movie. I guess it will have to wait for video for me…….

  12. I can not wait to see that movie! It isn’t open here yet…
good to have you back Ali!
That’s hilarious… oh… In that case, I hope to never go to Europe, just like your parents. I mean, I am not jewish, but i like their convictions :)

  13. First you look FAB in your gorgeous hoody, love it!
second, I adore Bono, everytime I go to a concert I pray I am the girl he pulls up on stage to dance with and give a little kiss…mmmm methinks he isn’t in to almost middle-aged, slightly overweight screaming fans though..
third, so sorry about the getting out of bed thing, totally sucks and the reason why I am putting off the big-girl bed as long as possible. Maybe til she is ten.
fourth, totally giggling over your parental convo.
    Hope this week ends better:)

  14. Hey el,
i love your mom- she’s the greatest.
whats that card game we used to play all the time???

  15. I fear my son realizing he can escape the confines of his bed. I guess that’s why there are locks on doors. Just kidding, heh.

Don’t you love it when your mom stops by your blog? I do! Especially on days I talk about sex or cuss every other word. Yeah.

I had no idea that Europe was anti-Semetic.

  22. Glad to hear that you liked the movie. I saw something about it on Oprah (shut up) and it looked terrific. Good to know that it’s worth going to the theater to see.

Do you even have to bother showering if you wear your lucky sweatshirt everyday? I mean, no one can see your hair with the hood on, right?

Comment by jennie on October 10, 2007
  23. This is what I hate about living in Australia AND not being home to watch tele during the day. I have NEVER heard of that movie but will definitely be going to see it. I can probably look forward to it being released in late 2008. The film has to swim here you see.

    Nice hoodie!
