okay, i’ve said it before, and i still stand by it, i love to shop. Shoes, clothes, purses, hair accessories. if it can be sold, i will buy it. but, lately, i haven’t had the desire to shop. why, you ask? because i’m afraid. i’m afraid that 2007 is going to go down in fashion history as being bad, bad, bad. worse than the 80′s. it’s going to show up on someone’s thursday thirteen as being the worst year to buy clothing.

yesterday, i decided to suck up my pride, hit the mall and find me a killer outfit for the Urbanmoms bash tomorrow night. Needless to say, i’m going to be attending the gala in nothing but what the good lord gave me because i left completely empty handed.

because i didn’t want to buy this:

or this:

or this:

or this:

seriously, what is this world coming to?? it’s almost like someone took a trip through Mischa Barton’s

and Mary Kate Olsen’s

closet and said, “dudes! this is where it’s AT!”

where it’s at, my ass. (although you’ll never see my ass because it is supposed to be hiding behind bag dresses and billowing pieces of fabric). i have a killer ass. i’ve worked hard to get my ass to look the way it does…my ass doesn’t do billowing.

it’s all about high waistlines, metallics, bedazzled and bejewelled (where’s Tana and her bedazzler when we need it??), 60′s retro futurist dresses, florals (seriously, NO ONE looks good in floral prints. no one.), bold prints, neon brights, slouch looks, trapeze volumes (hello? trapeze’s belong ONLY in the circus).

i think i’ll be skipping the mall this year and i’ll stick to buying lululemons on ebay….

  1. High waistline = Chantal looking pregnant.

As if I’m going to spend money to make myself the subject of midriffical speculation?

  7. I agree totally. And thankfully, I can only afford to clothe my children in the latest fashions. Which will NOT look like any of those, I might add! ME – jeans, sweatshirts and tees. Easy-peazy.

  8. I know! There is some sketchy stuff out there in the stores these days. Hopefully they’re just passing fads and the true classics will reign supreme. :)
I see you’re reading the Memory Keeper’s Daughter…I just finished it last week and really enjoyed it.

  9. yeah, very disturbing trends. i’ve also been freaked out by all the teeny bopper stores selling shirts and dresses that look like lingerie. lady m wrote a post about how this year was the year for teenage pregnant hookers. :-P

  11. I’d rather have the high waistlines than the low-risers…

However, I am very happy the tunic is coming back into style for those of us who are hip-happy. :)

  12. I have to take issue with your comment that these billowing dresses conceal your fab ass. I took my newly single self out on St. Patrick’s day in a empire waisted mini dress and got lots of comments on my fab ass. Maybe my dress was a little too short though. ;)

I found myself wearing same dress to work with flat and (gasp!) leggings yesterday. What has the world come to? I did feel incredibly chic though and the 20 somethings in my office were very jealous.

  14. I think 2007 is so bad because the fashions are MODIFIED from the ’80s. Seriously, in the past couple of months, I’ve seen banana clips, leg warmers, off-the-shoulder sweaters, and other things I can’t think of right now. Plus, all the skinny pants. I really think someone out there is trying to bring the ’80s back.
