am American girl in Canada on Thanksgiving. that’s who i am today. that’s who i am every year.
(and while yes, i DID have a Thanksgiving in October, it’s not the same. it’s on MONDAY. there’s no all-day football. there’s no silliness at the airport. there’s no Black Friday, which is one of my most favorite days of the year)
my mom and stepdad and siblings are in Scottsdale. without me. my dad and stepmom are in Atlanta. without me. I, however, am at WORK. i’m only slightly bitter today because this evening after carpool and dance shuttling back and forth i will get to attend our friends’ annual i-have-an-american-spouse Thanksgiving Potluck Jamboree…where i will get to have some pie. AND there will be games!
so, i’m certainly not without my thanks this morning.
I’m thankful i’m not a turkey!
I am thankful for annual turkey pardons. because, really, is there anything funnier than George W. Bush getting pecked in the pecker on Turkey pardoning day?
oh, happy day! This is a greater tradition than pumpkin pie…because, really, i’ve seen all the first thanksgiving photos…there was not a single pumpkin pie eaten. and the buckles? where the hell are the buckles on their shoes??
Oh, President Truman…thank you thank you for this beloved tradition!
and the turkeys! my god, it’s like the Miss America pageant. after being pardoned, the “winner” and an alternate (in case the winner can’t perform his duties. i swear to god. you can’t make this shit up) are FLOWN FIRST CLASS to Disneyland where they serve as honorary grand marshals for Disneyland’s Thanksgiving Day parade. After that, they spend the rest of their lives at a Disneyland ranch.
or sometimes they just get slaughtered. like in Alaska.
i am thankful for my family. my friends. my internets.
I am thankful that i didn’t have to be there the second time the ENT shoved a spoon into my son’s ear. but huzzah! the boy can hear!
i am thankful for low gas prices!
i am thankful for my jobs. all 3 of them. π
I am thankful that i get to be a McMom, even if i couldn’t figure out that you shouldn’t look at the SKY while being filmed…
i am thankful that my husband was willing to see “The Sound of Music” with me this week, because ohmigod, it was AMAZING.
i am thankful for the Starbucks that opened a block away from my office
i am thankful that i can block flickr contacts who like to take nude, hairy bathtub shots of themselves.
i am thankful that America got it right on November 4th.
i am thankful for dresses like this. and for SLynnro, for convincing me that i NEED it.
