i don’t know if it’s because i’ve gotten older or what, but i’m not finding scary movies to be…well…scary.
I remember as a kid being terrified of movies like Poltergeist, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Candyman, Pet Sematary, Child’s Play, and Friday the 13th.
As i got older and rewatched several of these movies, they actually made me laugh. The storylines were ridiculous and there was no suspense…there were just people dying all over the place.
As a teenager, the movies that scared me were the older movies – Psycho, the Exorcist, the Shining, It. These movies are scary in more of a psychological way – not as much in the bloodshed, axe-murdering kind of way.
But, now, when i watch Psycho or the Exorcist or It, i’m not really all that scared. Yes, The Shining still scares the absolute crap out of me. “Come play with us Danny. Forever. and ever. and ever.” gives me the chills just typing that! A few nights ago i watched the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and laughed my way through most of the scenes. maybe it was because i was watching Jessica Biel attempt to “act” or maybe it was because “Leatherface” didn’t look the least bit scary. i don’t know what it was, but i wasn’t scared. (sure, i didn’t want to go to sleep until the husband came home…but that’s beside the point)
What about you? What is the scariest movie you’ve seen?
