May 29 13

Once upon a time I went on The Mom Strike.

And it was for a copious amount of reasons—including, but not limited to, sloth, disrespect, ungratefulness (the new deadly sins?) and THE LUNCHBOXES.

Oh yes. The lunchboxes.

In you recall, I ask my kids for exactly one thing when they come home from school—to put their empty lunch boxes in the kitchen so I am not combing the house for them in the early hours of the a.m. when I’m way too tired to be packing three different lunches for three different picky palates.

And just about every day there’s at least one box missing.

2/3. Every day.

So. This morning I went downstairs and noticed one camo lunch box and one toile lunch bunch. But there was nary a polka-dotted one.

And that is how it came to be that Isabella Rose Martell made her own lunch.

Isabella-makes-her-school-lunch

I couldn’t tell you what’s in it, other than the bagel and cream cheese, raspberries and blackberries I saw her fiddling with.

But she made her lunch all on her own. And I breathed a sigh of a parenting win relief.

Now, since I’m in really great mood due to my aforementioned parenting win, I thought I’d give away a $100 LOFT gift card.

(I don’t get it right all that often, you guys, let me enjoy it when I do. It’s like the hand-holding punishment all over again.)

Now, I don’t know if you know this, but I’m a huge fan of LOFT. I wear it often, and I used to have to basically max out my credit cards every time I’d cross the border into Canada’s, uh, pants(?)—the good ole US of A. But then LOFT went and did something wonderful—it opened a store at Yorkdale Mall in Toronto where I could buy as many cardigans as I wanted. They have the best cardigans (and they have wee petite sizes for my wee petite bosom).

But then something even better happened. LOFT caught on to my obsession and asked me to be a brand ambassador of sorts and I laughed because I was probably the perfect choice for this and so a fabulous relationship was born, and I’m sure the LOFT ladies have tired of seeing my mug at their Yorkdale location. And now! You guys, now! They are opening up another store—at the Eaton Centre in Toronto—and this Thursday night (that’s tomorrow!) I will be front and center at the LOFT Press Preview Party and I want YOU to come shopping with me with your brand-new $100 gift card.

Plus, there’s a good chance I will need you to stop me from buying one of everything on my almost-summer wish list:

LOFT

1. Natural Jewel Print Tie Hem Henley Shell, $59.26

2. Cabochon T-Strap Jelly Flip Flops, $21.20

3. Floral Vine Print Elastic Waist Pencil Skirt, $59.26

4. Sheer 3/4 Sleeve Cardigan, $48.38

5. Stripe Pintucked Tie Waist Dress, $53.82

6. Paisley Print Lace Trim Halter Dress, $97.31

7. Scalloped Eyelet Hem Fluid Shell, $53.82

8. Hudson Printed Round Sunglasses, $26.64

9. Navy and White Stripe Stretch Belt, $37.51

10. Long Bauble and Fireball Wooden Necklace, $42.95

So, simply tell me in the comments one thing on your almost-summer wish list and you can join me at The Eaton Centre tomorrow evening—before it’s open to the public—to spend your $100 gift card!

(Winner will be chosen by random.org at 11pm this evening…and obviously you will have to be available tomorrow evening.)

  4. I really want a maxi dress that I can pull off one boob to breastfeed in 😉 And I want it in a bright summery colour!

  5. I really would love a new dress for the summer- my wardrobe is full of black and white prints and I want to add some colour! Thanks!!

  6. I can’t make it into Canada from DC tonight (ha) but, I need new 3/4 sleeve cardigans. Because I am a sweater hoarder even in summer. (Also, we look for lunch bags because there is one girl who ALWAYS forgets that hers is in her bag and then two days of not locating it means there is a funk somewhere.

  7. A cute dress, that while trendy enough for a hip and still edgy (oh come on I am in my head at least) 45 year old mother of 4, it can’t be trendy enough to make it a target for a 14 year old daughter who’s closet seems to eat clothes because she always has nothing to wear and unfortunatley fits in the few trendy clothes I still have!

  8. I have never purchased anything at Loft… I don’t think I’ve ever even been in one of their stores. I’m thinking this might be a bad thing?

  9. I saw your tweets this morning about the lunch debacle and how you handled it and I almost stood up and clapped in my living room!

I need some pretty new flip flops or sandals that I didn’t buy at the dollar store or grocery store. Those jelly flip flops look so pretty!

Oh, and I’m totally available to shop with you tomorrow night. 🙂

  12. I’ve been shopping at Loft for years and I’m so glad to see it here in Canada now.

I have sundresses and cardis on my summer wishlist. That’s my summer uniform.

  13. Rats! Would love to go with you tomorrow evening… but alas don’t think I can make it from Ohio. I would, however, love to have the gift card!! I ADORE Loft!!!!

  14. I am on the hunt for a dress to wear to my brother-in-law’s wedding. Need something fresh, not too formal, and that I’d be able to also wear again.

  16. I kind of sort of want a Maxi Dress….which I never thought I would want.

And I am always in need of cardigans. AL. Ways.

  17. I would just like a new sundress so I can look nice when I sit outside.

  18. A neutral summer-weight blazer that I can wear with bright-coloured skirts!

Comment by Ashleigh on May 29, 2013
  19. Dresses. So many light, flowy dresses. Hot weather and I have a complicated relationship at the best of times, but given that I will be in my third trimester in the hottest part of the summer, I think fab dresses are the only thing that will keep me from melting into a puddle at my desk, or getting fired for going to work in my underpants.

Comment by Alicia on May 29, 2013
  20. First, I must win this because I can never enter any contests. Second, I am looking for a new look to wear to all my speaking events this summer. And I need you to dress me. So maybe the #5 dress would rock the stage, but only you really know.

Comment by Erica on May 29, 2013
  21. I am heading back to work part time this fall after being home with the kids for the last eight years. So needless to say I need some work clothes. Probably a pencil skirt or a new blazer.

Comment by Kathy on May 29, 2013
  22. I too am a HUGE fa of Loft. I’m on their site all the time and in their Yorkdale location when I can. I’m finding it hard to make a decision as to what I want to get (usually all of it). I guess my main must have for summer are a new, stylish pair of flats and a nice maxi dress. Simple, casual. I know I can get them both at Loft!!!

Comment by Marijka on May 29, 2013
  23. I would love a new dress to wear to my daughter’s grade six grad. I even saw one in the window at LOFT. But basically I need all new clothes. Two years of working from home has made all my clothes useless.

Comment by Tamra on May 29, 2013
  24. Yeah for the lunch win!
And…there are two things I my “need to get” list…cardigans, because I have no idea where my summer cardies have gone. And/or…a dress to wear to my school’s grad night – I haven’t found one I like yet. 🙁

  27. Summer weight short sleeve tops for work and honestly anything to help ‘pad’ my work wardrobe to account for the winter padding i’ve put on!

Comment by Erin on May 29, 2013
  28. I just had a baby six weeks ago so I am on the hunt for new clothes. After having my oldest I can not stand to wear pants so my wish lisy is full of dresses that I can chase two kids in.
