April 6 11

Can you read me one more story?

Wait, just one more story.

I need a drink; my lips are super dry.

I don’t like the orange cup.

Can you do the spider check?

I am cold, I need a hoodie.

Mommy….so…..um……tomorrow…..in…….my……lunch…..

I need my white blanket first, then my pink blanket, then the red one.

I need to pee.

Now I need you to put my white blanket on first, then my pink one, then the red one.

Where’s Baby Lexi? I can’t sleep without her!

Oh! I remember. She’s downstairs.

Now I need you to put my white blanket on first, then my pink one, then the red one.

Wait. My legs are cold. My pants keep riding up. MOMMY, I ABSOLUTELY NEED TO WEAR WHITE KNEE-HIS TO BED OR I CAN’T POSSIBLY SLEEP.

Can I have one more story?

Can I have my math book?

Can you do the spider check again?

I need you to fix my pencil.

I need another drink.

OH NO! I spilled my water all over my shirt.

I need a new shirt.

And now I need to change my pants because they don’t match my shirt anymore.

Now I need you to put my white blanket on first, then my pink one, then the red one.

Mommy?

WHATOHMYGODWHATCANYOUPOSSIBLYWANTCHILD?

ITHASBEENTWOHOURSSINCEYOUWEREPUTTOBED?!??!?!

I love you.

I love you, too, my bedtime manipulator.

  1. Sitting on this side of the experience I smile and think, what a blessing. Check with me 11 hours from now and I’ll be tearing my hair out in clumps.

  2. This is my daughter too! But she’s only two and it only lasts about 45 minutes. So I guess I have 2 hours to look forward to in a few years. The other night I was called up because she couldn’t find her Minnie doll’s underwear. Anything and everything!

  3. OMG! my daughter does this EVERY. SINGLE. NIGHT. It drives me crazy – then when I have reached my limit I get the “ILoveYouDaddy” melt my heart.

  4. My son is well-versed in these techniques. And his Manipulator personality is only eclipsed by his Negotiator personality. This kid needs to be a lawyer.

  5. I was never so great at this when I was a kid, mostly because me asking for a glass of water always meant I got one, sitting next to my bed. Which meant I stayed IN my bed. Ha!

  8. You obviously know my two boys, only with less white and pink blankets and more Monster Trucks and hall lights on. Sweet Lord I am exhausted reading this and anticipating bedtime tonight.

  9. I didn’t see you in leo’s room every night. How did you get her script?
