It’s true what they say, wearing contacts is like riding a bicycle. Or something. Or not. But I’m wearing contacts again after thinking about it for about 2 years. It was either contacts or bangs and I figured contacts were the easier of the two commitments, and will require far fewer bobby pins when the excitement wears off or when it rains. I’m a little bit in lust with them, even though Isabella says she likes me better with glasses, which was really not what I was expecting. So contacts make the list of things I am loving this week.
Also on this list, which doesn’t include affiliate links (not that there’s anything wrong with that) just things my heart likes:
Radiolab podcast archives — listen to the episode called Colors, if nothing else. It’s really wow. Also Patient Zero was awesome. Also, The Normal Heart. It’s not new, but since I’ve been a big fan of Mark Ruffalo since his Matt Flamhaff days, I had wanted to see it for a while. Also it got Emmys and Golden Globes and stuff so obviously some other people liked it. You guys. You guys! It was so worth the watch. I really liked the Hailee Steinfeld version of Justin Bieber’s Love Yourself. And the version of Life on Mars that was on Girls when Shoshanna was in Japan. Also, I have been digging through some of my older music — like That Moon Song by Gregory Alan Isakov and Iron & Wine’s The Trapeze Swinger.
I also really loved this post, which includes 15 really doable things to do when things feel sad and icky. Thing #1: Open your closet. Find one warm piece of clothing that you haven’t worn in awhile. Bring it to a place that will give it away, for free, to someone who needs it. Thing #6: Leave a copy of your favorite book in a public place. Trust that the right person will find it. Read the rest of the things—you won’t be sorry. I really liked this Matzah Baller t-shirt so I bought it, but relax, I am not giving it to my mom for her birthday this week.
This.
Watch The Americans. And Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Buy his tulle midi skirt in baby blue. Read Not My Father’s Son by Alan Cumming. Use Moroccan Oil clarifying shampoo. Do this puzzle. Drink 2% flat whites. Attempt to make this gorgeous edible flower pie crust. Follow this instagram account — it’s full of so much beauty. And this one, because ohmygod
