Hey, you know what a control freak work-at-home mom who doesn’t get paid vacation days and who doesn’t like change in routine loves?
Let me tell you, then.
Jury Duty. The day after the kids go back to school after March break. I see that March is going to be a super productive one for me. (I guess I’ll see you all in April?)
And by loves, I really don’t mean loves. In case you weren’t sure.
“Bring reading material!” is what everyone warns when I tell them whine about jury duty. Apparently, in addition to doing something extremely important for our judicial system (that’s actually not sarcasm—I think the idea of jury duty is kind of awesome, and I’m sure it’s because of things like The Good Wife), there’s an awful lot of sitting around involved.
I won’t complain about this part. I’m actually quite skilled at sitting around and doing nothing. And I’m in the middle of exactly four novels and one book about panic attacks that I need to finish.
Between all of the panicking about how much work I’m missing, of course.
I do have a few little projects I can do while I’m sitting around required to not do anything.
Such as designing the perfect soundtrack for the movie version of my life.
What? I’m probably older than Justin Bieber and Katy Perry put together and they both have movies about their lives. And mine needs a soundtrack. It’s important, you know.
“Music, you know, true music, not just rock ‘n’ roll, it chooses you. It lives in your car, or alone, listening to your headphones—you know, with the vast, scenic bridges and angelic choirs in your brain. It is a place apart from the vast, benign lap of America.” ~Lester Bangs in Almost Famous.
Wait. Not everyone does things like this? Do you also not pick celebrities to have as your house for the ultimate dinner party? Do you also not name fictional babies in your head?

Think Mindy Kaling would want to play me?
Or…Anna Kendrick? She wouldn’t even have to do the cup trick. Not even once.
