i need this.

oooh…purty.

(i bet you thought it was going to be something a little less gadget-oriented, eh? well, clearly, you don’t know me. i’m a techno-gadget-needing freak. remember when i NEEDED an ipod touch? and a wii? and a new camera? and a new laptop? i can’t help it, i’m my father’s daughter…only i didn’t need a laserdisk player like he did. bwah)

i know what you’re thinking…trust me, i’ve heard all the arguments before..

women don’t even answer their cell phones. (did you ever think that maybe i’m not answering on purpose?) you have an ipod touch. you can check your email on that. (oh, wait, slow down. sure, i could. if i could ever find me some wifi that works. so far, the only two reliable places in this city are in the parking lot at my kids’ school and in my own driveway) it’s expensive. (come on. surely it can’t be that expensive. private school tuition is expensive. this is a mere blip.)

you don’t need it. okay, this one may be true. i don’t need it. i REALLY don’t NEED it.

but i sure want it. i want to be able to pin my friends to tell them that the technician couldn’t flipping find my appendix on the ultrasound. and i want to be able to check my work and personal emails all the time – they are VERY important, you know. and i want to be able to update my twitter friends that i’m at the health card office and a homeless dude just came and sat down next to me. and use the internet. (i can’t even tell you how many times i need access to imdb.com during the day…trust me. it’s a lot) and did i mention the pretty? it’s just so pretty. and the camera. so i don’t have to swear and wish i had a camera when the old lady with the blue hair – with a finger in each nostril- crosses the street.

fuck this. why do i NEED to NEED it? i’m 30! i’m employed (thrice over, actually)! i’m an independent woman! i should just go out and buy one! and this just isn’t going to cut it anymore…

(but, then again, remember how i almost got divorced when i bought my wii??)

(what kind of phone do you have? do you love it? hate it? do you covet the blackberry like i do?)

(oh, ps, i’m having a contest over at my Juice site! it’s for a Luminato prize pack worth almost $200! come on over and enter! all you have to do is guess where my first touristy Toronto visit was!)

(oh, also, thanks for being worried for me yesterday. xray was clear..and my iud is properly in place. awesome. and the results of the ultrasound were inconclusive…since they couldn’t find my appendix. so, i went for bloodwork this morning. and i choked up trying to give a urine sample. the pressure! i feel like i’m on House!)

  2. I actually don’t even have a cell phone right now, but I’d like to get one. iPhones are coming to Canada via Rogers this summer, so I’ll check out the cost when they make their appearance. Because I also have to check imdb.com multiple times a day!

  3. I’ve got a Sony Ericsson w810i… it came with a 1GB and a 4GB MS Pro Duo, thereby replacing my iPod for me (since it plays mp3s). I covet the K850i for its 5GB camera (seriously… 5GB can do an 8×10 print) but won’t get it until my current contract expires (Feb 2010) and something better has been released.

They’re rolling out Blackberries at work right now (curves), and I’m deciding whether or not I want one. (The debate is because I know myself, and if the damn thing bleep bleeps at 10.20pm with a work email, I’m going to read it and probably need to respond to it in order to be able to sleep later on.) The problem is, like you, I am a gadget whore, so a new toy is enticing. (Plus, being able to join twitter – I haven’t because most of my thoughts are when I’m not on the PC – which is like giving me another hole in the head, would be cool.)

  4. OMG, I want it too! Actually, I want an iPhone, but I don’t know if I could justify the cost. But the Blackberry, well it is through my phone provider and is cheaper than the iPhone and means I don’t have to switch networks.

But sadly, I’m not eligible for a new phone until Nov. Boo.

  6. I have a Curve from work and I love it. I love that I know what to expect when I get into the office and just because an email comes in at 11pm doesn’t mean I respond (it depends what it’s about) but I CAN and therefore often avoid a panic attack when I get to work in the morning. I like being reachable. But yes, I am addicted. If that little red light is blinking…I MUST check it. The browser isn’t the best (it can be slow) but I use it ALOT and it’s handy, as is the GPS since I’m always lost.

  7. As you may know, I just went through getting a new phone, because mine got…well…wet, let’s say. I too would LOVE to have a blackberry, and I TRIED to get hubby to agree…. Couldn’t justify the $40/mos data fee. So instead I got the LG slider, in pink. And I am quite happy with it. So my next contract upgrade will be in….2011? Hmph.

  8. I am in the middle of trying to figure out which gadget would be best for me right now. I got a raise and hubby said to go ahead and get the smart phone I’ve been wanting so now I’m trying to figure out what’s best for me – a Blackberry or a regular cell phone upgrade + the iPod touch. Actually the iPod touch + regular cell would be cheaper for me in the long run, but I just can’t decide.

You don’t like your iPod touch I take it?

Have an LG basic phone with Verizon, but I really want the new phone verizon puts out with flip up thingy for typing underneath. Husband has blackberry, and his work email is just annoying all night long…

But I hear you on the need to contact IMDB.com at all hours of my waking day.

  10. I have a blackberry and love love love it! I actually got a great deal on mine. AT&T wireless gives me a phone allowance every 18 months (you have to renew your contract each time to get it). So I used the specified amount and paid the $29 extra for my blackberry. It was around Christmas time so they had a lot of great deals.

  16. I love my BlackBerry.

Two things, though, from a CrackBerry addict to a n00b:

    1) The mobile Twitter apps are difficult to get working on the Curve for some reason. I’ve been trying a few of them out for a couple of days and I’m stuck going to the website and updating there; but on the mobile site you can’t see the list of just the people who have replied to you. An inconvenience, but not something to avoid the phone over.

    2) RIM is coming out with a 3G network enabled Blackberry model later this summer: faster internet connection. So just wait a couple of months.

Which is really useful since instead of big buttons it has a keyboard, complete with a space bar and all that jazz. There’s a NumLock and a Shift key for when things are typed in.

I want an iPod Touch, if only so I can have an iPod to watch my movies and shows downloaded from iTunes on it.
