when you live in a place where every day from December until March (or April…or May) looks like this…

(ps. are you dying from josh’s mask?? we FORCED him to wear it because he freaks out from the wind when we – and when i say ‘we’ what i really mean is ‘their father’ took them tobogganing…that’s sledding, in canada-speak. yes, you read that right…he freaks from wind. freak. or fweek, as he would say)

…you constantly have cold weather on the mind. i mean, how can you not?

so, while some cities – that have target, by the by – are already putting out their bathing suits…our winter is only really just beginning.

so, because i’m a true believer in murphy’s law, of course, it’s right about now that my boots decide to break. not last week…when i was in Atlanta, and all boots were on CLEARANCE. no, friends, it was yesterday, while walking through a pile of snow.

boo.

so…off to buy some new boots, i go.

here’s where i need your help. because i’m non-sensible, I have lived in Toronto for 11 years, i have yet to own a pair of REAL boots. i’m a big fan of the fashion boot. the one that looks nice but really is completely and totally useless in slushy, wet weather…

so, of course, that’s what i want. again. (i’ll never learn to be sensible in the winter) fashion boots. i don’t want practical boots. i want to LOOK good. not be warm. i know, it’s twisted, but that’s me.
they need to be black. they need to be worn over skinny jeans (which, not to toot my own horn or anything, i’m fitting back into only a week after my Atlanta food-fest). they need to also be worn with skirts. i prefer the just-under-the-knee length, but i’d be willing to consider other lengths. and they have to have a heel (a wedge would be okay, i think), because HELLO! i’m short. oh, and it would help if they weren’t too, um, costly. and keep in mind that i live in Canada…so an online store that ships there is ever so helpful…
i already own a pair of these

in black and pair of these in brown

so…HELP! please…and FYI…i’m looking for something that’s NOT a winter boot…something that’s more like boot #2 and less like boot #1
for your hard work and internet searching skills…i will reward you. in the best way i know how. with coffee. or at least, with a coffee gift card.

yes, it’s true. if you leave me a boot option in the comments…a link, a picture, anything…you are entered into a draw to win this:

and i will have Emily choose the winner.

so…what are you waiting for…BOOT away!!

(also, while we are on the topic of gift cards…i’d like to give a shout-out to the lovely, lovely Keri, who not only sent me a Christmukah card this year, she also threw in a little TimCard, for which i am ridiculously thankful)

come over and say hi at Juice, my entertainment blog, today. It’s Friday, which means it’s Smackdown day…and also…i just have to say, i’m so annoyed with this whole writer’s strike/january hiatus crap we are having…no 30 Rock! no Office! no Grey’s! boo! i’m thinking i need to start growing one of these…

erm…maybe not…

  1. Well, I am SO NOT a fashion guru. My daughter wanted these boots in one of the plaids this year for Christmas. They have a pair in black, and aren’t too horribly expensive, though they may be too close to the Uggs to be what you’re looking for. I know nothing about fashion, though, so if these really suck, go easy on me. They do look like they’d do well in cold weather.

  4. MTM has a pair of Sorels that are not quite as “dressy” as the second pair, but definitely more than the Uggs. They’re mid to upper calf, but without much heel to them. (Really, when you’re looking at boots, you’re either going heeled and low-practicality in slush or less-heeled and more practical for Canadian weather.)

They are like these, but all black:
    http://www.sears.ca/gp/product.....d=15860831

I swear by Sorel, so I scanned their site and offer the following options:
    http://www.sorel.com/Product.a.....8;prod=106
    (a little too furry)
    http://www.sorel.com/Product.a.....8;prod=107
    (maybe not enough heel?)
    http://www.sorel.com/Product.a.....8;prod=104
(maybe not high enough in the leg?)

OK… I’m starting to sound like one of the Queer Eye guys… it’s time for me to stop now. Have a nice day. Toodles! (Gah! Toodles? WTF are you turning me into?)

  7. These are pricy but – I think they’re totally worth it. Nice boots MADE for Canadian winters that don’t look like winter boots. I skipped out on a pair on sale earlier this season and I’m still kicking myself over it. Most of these are waterproof too. The site has a section that lists retailers but you can find them at other smaller stores for slightly cheaper.

I got them a Feet First, but I’ve seen them in Browns too. They are everything you (and I) look for in a boot; sensible (100% waterproof and moderately warm), stylish, good for skinny jeans and skirts and black. I get loads of compliments and I would marry my boots this year if I could.
