Getting my hair done. cut, colored, blown-dry, styled, what have you, has quickly become one of my most favorite things to do.

Think about it. I get to sit down for 3 hours. there is no screaming, no whining, no “but moooooommmmmmy”. There are magazines – good ones too. US weekly and People and Vogue. There’s the head massage.

and there’s the flattery. the good ole’ ego stroking. which i will NEVER say no to. “oh, Ali, you really have the best hair. it’s so soft and straight and it’s sooooo nice!” i mean, sure, i bet they say that to all the girls…but i don’t really care. i never feel as good about myself as i do when i go to the salon. seriously.

Justine (love her! she is a clone of Lucy Liu) decided to experiment to give me some volume. i laughed and told her to go ahead. she used about 35 round brushes, wrapped each piece of my hair in one, and left it there for about 20 minutes (medusa, much?)

if i had my camera – damnit, i really need my camera…the good news is that my brand new SD900 is returning with the husband from Atlanta on sunday! – i would have taken a picture. but, i swear, my hair looks like this:

and my hair has NEVER looked like that. i don’t do volume. i do straight and flat.

i do this:

-
  1. Trust me – so many people want straight long flat hair like yours, so I think just doing the volume thing every so often is great.
I have straight hair too (which lately has been wavy – weird) and every so often my hairstylist cuts it and makes it all wavy. I love it, but only every so often.
Actually, maybe you should start getting up an hour early to add curls!

  2. I have straight hair too, so I know what a wonder it is to get it to curl or wave! I finally gave up on the long hair too because mine looked like your for exactly 1 month about 10 years ago.

And time at the hairstylist rocks!

  5. You seriously do have nice hair. I wish mine was either straight or curly. It’s just in between, which means I can go either way, as long as I’m willing to put in the effort (which I’m usually not!)

  7. We always want what we can’t have, don’t we?! I gave up on trying to get my hair straight like yours and go with the curly look most days…something I only discovered after I had the bunny!

  8. Oh definitely take a pic when you get your camera! Your hair is gorgeous, straight, too, though.

Mine is SUPER thick and I always have to get them to thin it out for me…only to have it get really thick again in a week or two.

You’re so right about that “me” time at the salon. I love it too!

  9. I know all about flat hair. Yours IS NOT flat, it’s thick and full and beautiful.

If I could afford it, I’d have a personal hairdresser. I love having my hair done!

  10. my hair is always straight too, I want the volume, 100-round brush hair… but only if I can do it in less than five minutes and if it can be done with one child on my hip.

  12. Oh the head massage…..I always laugh when my stylist asks me if I have time for a head massage….I mean, would I EVER say no to a head massage? Haircuts, pedicures and massages….the way to a happy mommy!

  13. I used to do straight and flat. Now I do straight and flat with a few cowlicks caused by that whole head-shaving episode I had back when I was a teenager.

  16. I wish my hair were straight. I have to work really really hard for straight. The least bit of humidity = not so straight.
