i’m having serious issues with the superbowl this year. The superbowl….or should i say super bowl parties have long been considered “men only.” i get it. i get that once you start inviting couples, it is not the same. Women become distractions because they are there to be social, not to watch the game.

but, i’m not like most women. i actually LIKE football. but, no one really cares at all about this fact. I am woman. I stay home with children while manly man gets to eat meat and watch football. men are neanderthals.

I’m not sure that this has ever happened before. In the four games this weekend, all four teams that i wanted to win, won. i was shocked. usually, the team i want to win gets demolished. See….the Packers….

I’m still undecided about next week’s games. i think i’m favoring Atlanta, for obvious reasons, and i’m liking New England. But, how awesome would it be to have a Philly/Pitt Superbowl??!

  3. I don’t think the invites are a reflection of being “a fan of the game”. In fact, I’ve been to many a superbowl party where there were guys who could care less about football. It’s just one of those times where guys get together – and can eat and swear and drink beer and be guys and not have the other $ex around like they do for the other 364 days of the year.
The one mixed superbowl party I was ever at was a disaster. You couldn’t hear the game over the constant nattering. Granted, the girls weren’t all “fans” – but never-the-less, it changes the entore atmosphere of the gathering.

  4. You don’t run in the right circles. Some of the biggest football fans I know are women (my mother included) and would no more be excluded from our Stupidbowl parties as would Red Grange except that he’s dead. I find most men to be boring anyway and exclusive groups of them are too much for me to bear. The smell of testostrone and homo-eroticism sticks in the back of my throat left unchecked. As far as I’m concerned, one of womens’ big rolls in this strange expeirience we all share is to reign in the male, make him abide by certain, pre-agreed upon limits. Men are crazy. Women are crazy too but in a different way. Its the clash between these two crazies that keep everything on the right track, the yin and the yang, id and ego, Laurel and Hardy.

I don’t really give a rat’s banana about football beyond the perverse thrill of watching huge musculuar millionaires beating the living crap out of each other anyway except that Sunday afternoon is the only time I can claim exclusive rights to the teevee. Its “football time”, and no one can get between a male homeowner and his teevee during “football time”. I’m happy to share it with anyone not too morbidly interested, females prefered but it is the one day (or two or three, depending) that my teevee watching preference trumps all others. Its a power thing really.
