so, i was all ready. i had my fancy new glove. and my fancy lime green [insert company name here] sharks t-shirt (sure, it’s lime green and it’s about 40 sizes too large…but at least this year i actually GOT a shirt…)
i was all over this. and then it started to rain. and then continued to rain. and then rained some more. and some more. but, i showed up, and i played (because as my fearless leader Mark said, “come on Ali, if nothing else, it gives you something to write about”…)
Sure, i bunted. and got out. and didn’t swing. and got out. and bowled over the other team’s first baseman and ate some a shitload of dirt. and errored my way onto first base. and sure, i got soaked. soaked, people. it took me about two hours for my teeth to stop chattering last night (while i watched the best double send-offs ever…goodbye, Dominique and Jason Castro…don’t let Nigel Barker – mmm, Nigel Barker – and the tambourine man hit you on the way out!!). and sure, i only got one free beer. and sure, i spent the entire game out in right field…not doing anything (but, at least i wasn’t catcher…like i was last year…ALL season)…not even working on my tan….
but it was fun.
i can’t think of anything i’d rather have done last night…well, maybe some Cake for dinner…
speaking of things that are not so fun…has anyone heard Scarlett Johansson’s new album…oh, yes, she made an album. she’s another in the long line of actors-turned-singers…but she HAD potential. i was actually looking forward to hearing her Tom Waits covers on her Anywhere I Lay My Head album.
her voice, surprisingly, isn’t the problem. when you listen to the album you feel like you are underwater or something. it’s very, erm, cloudy sounding. not sexy, though. kind of desperate and breathy and unclear. disappointing, really.
