So, here’s the thing. There’s a difference between being A PHOTOGRAPHER and being someone who really likes to take pictures a lot and sometimes gets really lucky and the pictures come out pretty nicely. Only, now I am seeing that as I become more comfortable with my camera and I am understanding why certain pictures come out the way they do and as I realize that there’s no place I’d rather be than with my camera in front of my face and that all I do all day long is have lens envy that the lines between being a photographer and being someone who likes to take pictures is becoming a little blurred.

I am a photographer. I am certainly not the most professionally trained photographer to ever be. And I am certainly not carrying around the best equipment that I could be. And I don’t have a studio. And I have friends who are so much more wonderful at this than I am…but, you guys, I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER. I can finally admit it. I am.

(And if you know me at all, you guys how hard this is for me to admit. I am so much better with the self deprecation than I am at admitting that I am good at something; at anything.)

But, dudes, this weekend, while Kristabella was here visiting, we went pumpkin patching at Downey’s Farm. I put all of my gear into my new Epiphanie bag (thanks, Bethany!) and I was super excited to take pictures of my two youngest muffins at the farm. Because everyone know that the pumpkin patch is the best place for pictures.

Only, THIS is what actually happened. I pulled out my camera to start taking some shots and I thought…that’s weird, why is my camera already on? I left my camera on. LEFT IT ON and drained the entire battery. So, instead of lovely pumpkin patch shots, I got semi-lovely iphone shots.

It certainly didn’t take away from our experience. We still had just as much fun running through the corn maze trying to find the hidden clues. And we had just as much fun on the hayride. And we had just as much fun petting the goats and the cows and all the other livestock. And had just as much fun opening up the outhouse door to see the skeleton on the toilet. And we had just as much fun racing tricycles. And we had just as much fun freezing our tootsies off.

And this is how I know I am a photographer.

The entire time, all I could think about were the pictures that I wasn’t capturing.

In other news, I sent my son…who looked like this, to get his hair cut.

And I’m fairly certain that his daddy came home with the wrong kid.

OMG.

It’s your last chance to win a $100 Visa Gift card over at my review site. All you have to do is tell me if you are a picky eater. Couldn’t be easier, right?

  4. I have seen iPhone photos that put DSLR photos TO SHAME.
Welcome to the club. It’s not very exclusive, but we have lots of snacks and speak f/stops.
By the end of the week I will also have you shooting in RAW.

  6. DUDE. If my camera drained batteries while left on, I’d never have batteries charged. EVER. Do you maybe have a setting that will tell yours to go to sleep if you don’t push any buttons for a while? Mine sleeps after 10 minutes.

You still got some cute pics.
