13 of the best gangster-ish movies

is anyone watching the Black Donnellys? I am absolutely LOVING it. it’s so good. i highly, highly recommend. it’s great. the character development, even only two episodes in, is fantastic. the storyline is great. and Olivia Wilde, well, she’s stunning.

in the spirit of my new favorite gangster show – second to the Sopranos, of course, this week’s thursday thirteen is about my 13 favorite gangster movies. i wrote gangster-ish, because some of them might straddle the line of what one might consider a gangster film…

  1. Carlito’s Way (the first one, not the second one that was never really made) has to be one of the best gangster movies of all time.

    Heh… when my wife was pregnant I kept telling her I was going to introduce our new baby to people with “Say hello to my little friend.” She was unimpressed.

    btw: I’m loving the Black Donnellys too.

  2. I don’t think I have ever seen any of those movies at all. I saw the previews for the Black Donnellys and thought it looked interesting. I do like the Sopranos too……

  3. I saw the previews for Black Donnellys but the little one is usually still up and it isn’t quite a baby show. Maybe I’ll put it on the DVR and try to get into it.

  5. I haven’t seen the Black Donnellys either – loved Donny Brasco and the Godfather… especially the first one, and John travolta in Pulp Fiction was superb… Great TT.

  6. Great list! I’m loving The Black Donnelly’s, too! Snatch was so funny – something I can’t really say about most of the other movies on your list…although, they are all awesome!

    Can’t wait for the final season of Sopranos! What will happen? I’m going to have to start watching last season to get ready!

  9. Gangsters! I should do a post about my father’s uncles sometime – they were all small time gangsters in Chicago and every.single.one.of.them. was murdered. All six. CRAZY!

  14. I’ve only seen the Untouchables–love it btw. I realize there’s a big hole in my cinematic experience, not having seen any of the Godfather movies (and me being such a movie buff) but I’ve never gone in for dark and violent really. But I love seeing lists like this.
