November 24 15

It’s getting so close to my most favorite time of the year—when Elf and Josh Groban get added to my entertainment rotation.

But I’m getting way ahead of myself, because before any of my lovely December-time favorites come out to play, there’s this little thing called a bar mitzvah that’s happening. #MarBar15, as we’ve {mildly} cleverly hashtagged it. Our guests have started arriving, and both the big and little pieces seem to be falling into place. There are unexpected angels in my life who have surprised me with sushi, and shabbat lunch invitations, and baked goods, and brunches. I’m beyond terrible at asking for help, typically, but this time I have forced myself to nod and agree to take people up on their offers.

I have cute sparkly shoes and a mostly written speech, so really I have the most important things covered.

When Josh opened up a package addressed to him from The Green Bay Packers wishing him the best and a huge mazel tov on this special day, well, that’s when it hit me. It’s time to get excited about this! I have been in a state of, well, pure panic — as I’m apt to do — about getting everything in my life finished.

But now, I’m just feeling so lucky.

How lucky am I that my son is going to spend this weekend surrounded by family and friends, surrounded by good food, good drinks, good music, good dancing. How lucky am I to have reason to smile and celebrate.

How lucky am I to have surprise sushi.
