i was going to tell you all about my great weekend…and it really was. one of the best. but instead, my mind is preoccupied by my little devil of a child.

she has this little game she plays. when she comes out of the bath she runs into her room, stands behind her crib and pees on the floor. and then proceeds to laugh at herself like a hyena for about 5 minutes while i clean her and the floor and swear under my breath. hilarious, i know. go ahead, you can laugh now. everyone else does.

her stunt this morning threw me over the edge, however. she was sitting in my bed. my bed. inconspiciously removed her diaper. and peed on my bed. and laughed like an hyena. again.

Now, granted, it’s not like she handed me her poo like some babies that i know…but this leads me to believe that’s she is in control of her bladder. is 17 months too early to toilet train?

because, honestly, the thought of not having any more kids in diapers is a much, much more pleasant thought than months and months of me having to clean my carpets and my sheets.

  1. My daughter expressed an interest in the toilet around that age. We’re four months hence and still fully in diapers though, so I’m not sure what that gives you.

However, we do use the potty before our bath, routinely every.single.night. (We run the bath and then put her on the toilet naked immediately before getting into the tub.) Some nights she goes, some she doesn’t. However, at least this way you can rest assured her bladder is empty before you let her loose on the carpet. Maybe that would work for you? It also gives you a little start to using the toilet.

  3. My lil’ one has been aware of peeing for a while now, although she’s shown no actual interest in toilet training. My grandmother had all eight of her kids trained by 18 months, so it is doable, I guess.

  4. My brothers and I were all potty trained by 18 months…well, one brother tagged along behind there. Anyway. You can do it!

  5. Totally time to buy her some pretty undies and start the training!

My cat pooped on my rug today. Not the same thing but I just wanted to share….

  6. hahahahahahaha! Can’t. Stop. Laughing. Seriously. Can’t….Stop!

I LOVE Jeff’s idea. I’m going to try it. Should be cute. ‘Specially since the monkey has no idea what’s going on ‘neath her diapy.

Anne’s comment cracked me right up.

I can’t believe Isabella does that!

Thanks for the shout-out! I terrified now every time the monkey hands me something….

  7. Gosh, had my kids been ready to train at 17 months I would have been stoked! My son didn’t train till a week after his 3rd birthday. But..he did just wake up that day & he was trained. No real traning involved..so I guess that part was ok. I think I’d just try it slowly if you think she is ready. Just don’t push it. Don’t wanna do it before she is ready..I did that with my daughter..and it prolonged her getting trained completely by quite a bit.

Hilarious story by the way. LOL Not so funny for mommy, I know…but quite a story. hehe

  9. Does it sound weird if I say I have a dog who sort of does the same thing? 😉 Well…minus the laughing…and the diaper.

  10. I am always shocked when kids do stuff like that. Mine never did, thankfully, or I’d never have made it this far.

I’m all for the potty training. My daughter was 27 months when she did it. While we were on vacation. Just up and put on underwear before the flight and that was it. Barely any accidents, too.

    Good luck!

  12. The poster, 2 posts above me, must be JOKING (huh?)…my boys have peeed everywhere, they are no better than dogs :)))

Jeremy was hard to train, Toby dead easy and I think Miranda will be the most difficult, she likes that whole “get out of the bath, and pee in the lounge room” thing too – she loves wearing knickers but that is about it.

FYI, I have hardwood floors EVERYWHERE (except the bathroom of course), thank God, I couldn’t cope otherwise LOL.
