tide blue. and siyonara.

i love my nanny. really, i do. she’s the wife i always wished i had. she is the extra set of hands and the extra set of brains that i need to make sure shit gets done in casa de martell. she makes sure that the kids have lunches. and that Josh’s library book goes back to school. she does laundry and puts stuff away. and always knows where my missing pair of shoes is. she helps bathe Isabella while i help Emily with her homework.

but sometimes she, erm, well, she surprises me.

like last night, when i gazed suspiciously at the bottle of palmolive…

the once orangish-pinkish-peachish dishwashing soap was now a suspiciously strange shade of blue.

tide blue.

oh,  yes, she did.

she ran out of dish soap so she filled the container and had been washing our dishes all day with TIDE. i’m pretty sure we are all going to die. or we are going to eat on paper plates for the rest of our lives.

but, there’s always a silver lining.

i’m pleased to announce that after only 30 minutes of crying and asking for it, and 30 minutes of stalling, Miss Isabella Rose is PACI-FREE! the MAM sure served us well. fare thee well. they are all on their way to Elijah Wood (and by on their way to Elijah Wood, i mean on their way to the dump)

so long and thanks for all the sleep.

Yay for Isabella… maybe Elijah will take one of those pacifiers and shut up for a minute!

Not defending, but technically when your kids were babies, didn’t they put things like washcloths in their mouths? And were those washed with Tide? And were you worried? I don’t think you’re going to die.

But still, dishes with Tide? Ick.

Maybe you need to follow the MTM school of thought on cleaning products: have a full bottle in the house all the time. Then, when you open it, put that item on the weekly grocery list… it means you’ll always have that item in the house in duplicate.

Well done on the dummy disposal….sigh, Miranda has chewed through each and every one of her Mam’s but still sucks on them. They are gradually making their way to the bin - however, she managed to find one of Tobs’ old Avent ones tonight…SIGH, she has been told that she has to give the up for Big Girl 4-year old Kindy in Feb 09 so here’s hoping…

Tide? ICK, yuck, gross, but I’m sure you’ll be fine…:))) I want your nanny too!

Ahh, the binky is both a blessing and a curse. Congrats on getting Isabella through it… My Ava was hooked too. It took a week till she was over it. Here is a photo in one of her more peaceful binky moments.

Just switch to Dr. Bronners - it smells yummy and washes everything.

Oooh Ali you are an inspiration to get paci free…after our vacation in a few weeks, that is the plan. Not a chance I’m gonna make her part with the thing before a 5 hour plane ride followed by a 5 hour car ride…but after that for sure it’s gone!

Congrats!
Eva is a Mam gal too! They’re so much prettier than the Gerber Nuks that the boys used!
Somehow she has managed to wean herself off of them and they are now a “crib only” thing.

And if your dishsoap is your only issue with the nanny - consider yourself lucky. I’ve tried 3 housekeepers and they have each been a complete waste of money.

Yay, congrats!!! Elijah Wood — love it! And what was your nanny thinking, honestly???

Instead of the tide, I think I would have gone for the hand soap… but that’s just me.

Congrats on being Paci-Free!!!

Wouldn’t shampoo have been a better choice than Tide?

Yay Isabella!

Ew on the dish soap! I have never tried that, although my mom used to dilute it with so much water towards the end of the bottle. All that would come out were suds.

HOW CUTE IS THE PICTURE ON THE BOTTOM?

You make me want to have a girl. Shame on you! ;)

Awww…the paci is so cute, though.

I have NO IDEA what I am going to do when it is time to get Emily to stop sucking her thumb.

For now, she can suck away :)

little d still sucks on his imaginary-paccy when he’s sleeping : ( so sad.

At least your dishes will have that “just hung out on the clothesline freshness”!

Also, I agree with the other posters, if the Tide issue is your worst prob. you’re lucky! My last domestic assistant stole my brand new ipod!

Wow. Impressive. I’m sure Elijah Wood is grateful!
That’s just bizarre about the Tide. Seriously weird.

Yay! Surely it will only get easier for her & you.

hehehe your poor nanny, does she know you blog about her? :P I guess she figured it was a cleaning product, so was therefore better than nothing. I understand her reasoning.
Does your nanny live with you? she sounds awesome & so helpful!

[ 18 Jun 08 ]

oh CONGRATS on her paci leaving! wooo!

[ 18 Jun 08 ]

Ali have i ever told you what a genius i know you are?! well its all true good job getting rid of Bellas paci.

[ 18 Jun 08 ]

congratulations! i didn’t wean from my “pats” until my mom let me lose them all around the house. eventually, i had lost the last one and she said, “well, they’re all gone, no more.” i cried for them so much, but eventually i accepted the inevitable. i think we found the last one floating around the house when i was 11. :-P

That is so an Aaron thing to do. I once pulled the old Palmolive in the dishwasher trick myself, so perhaps I shouldn’t judge.

You’re all so hip with a nanny. IF my dishes get done..there may or may not have been soap involved AT ALL!

Awesome. We have *got* to get rid of the paci, my child is WAY behind the age of needing it and yet I am lame and he still has it (only at home and in the car, NOT in public). He’s still 3 but he will soon be 4 and it better be gone by then.
