dude. last night i went to sleep at 8:15. i made it through the australian and the dread guy on American Idol and completely passed out. between the carpools (2) the playdate pickups (2) the after-school activity drop-offs (1) and pick-ups (2) i’m WIPED. i feel like a taxi driver, only i’m not getting paid. i can’t even get myself a freakin’ brazilian because there just isn’t enough time.

why yes, i would like some cheese with that whine.

anyway, you aren’t here to hear me whine…you came to dress ali again. (shut up…you love to dress me, you know it)

so, amongst my lovely little NYC purchases was this dress:

now…what shoes would you wear with this dress? is it black? is it brown? is it gray? i can’t really tell. according to the BR website, the color of the dress is ‘black multi’ but according to the horn-rimmed awesome Anthony at the BR in soho, it’s brown.

(does the close-up help? didn’t help me either…)

so..shoes? i was thinking toupe colored peep-toe wedges? maybe? help!!! i’m started to have random panic attacks about this trip.

i need shoe help.

because here’s the thing about me. ali secret #421. i love shoes. love love love. i buy shoes. lots of them. i have at least 50 – um, better make that at least 70 – pairs. (and that’s AFTER throwing out a whole bunch recently) but i always buy the wrong shoes – shoes i’ll never wear because i have NOTHING to wear them with. or i buy the SAME shoes. i have exactly 12 pairs of a similar version of the same shoe. i swear…i own all THREE of these pairs:

from the same season. from the same store. (please note: these are NOT options to wear with the dress…these are shoes i wear every. single. day. with my black pants. every. single. day.)

i’m thinking i may have a problem…

  1. Nice choice! I’d wear black shoes…anything else might be too light and stand out too much. Or dark brown. There’s only a couple of spots that are light on the dress.

  2. I love the dress! She’s wearing brown peep toes on the BR website, which I think I like for day to day, but if your intention is to wear it in the evening, I could also see going with a deep bronze. The taupe would look good too, something like this http://www.piperlime.com/brows.....=571426002

Good taste by the way…I have two pairs myself. One closed toe, one peep toe.

  6. Ali that is an AB-FAB dress! and i think taupe coloured peep toe shoes would be sweet with it….what colour is your handbag that you were going to accesssorise the dress with? maybe you could use the same colour for your shoes…

  8. I love shoes, too, but most of mine are casual and/or boots.

As for American Idol, it’s definitely got to be Jason Yeager going home this time. And I think Luke. And have you noticed how so many of the guys this year look like other celebrities? Weird.

  9. I think that you could quite easily wear brown, black or taupe with that dress. So, you should really buy 3 pairs.
As for shoes … I have a similar problem. People tease me about it at work because I have bankers boxes full of shoes. At my old desk I had a shoe cupboard. I’ve been trying to sort out if I have to bring them home when I’m on mat leave or if I can leave them here. My concern is that they could get lost if they stay here (since my office is moving over the next year) but at the same time, my husband isn’t quite aware of number of shoes I own, and if I bring home several boxes of shoes I won’t really be able to justify buying more.
PS I go to bed at 8:15 all the time these days.

Or, seriously, as close to nude as your legs are when tan: taupe, beige, etc.

  13. Well…speaking as a fellow shoe addict…I would have to buy a black pair, a taupe pair, a dark brown pair..you get the idea. Then the day I actually have to wear (or pack) the dress, I will have what I want and not have that, “Oh crap why didn’t I just go with the _____” buyer’s remorse.

  14. Since the dress is a nice mix of neutrals I would get some shoes with a pop of colour. A pair of red shoes would be fabulous. Or a pair of metallic sandals. Pair it with a great bag and you will be totally what not to wear after the reveal. :)

  15. I think you should “pop” the shoe color. My first suggestion would be a kick-ass electric blue, with red as a follow up.

  16. I love the dress! Great colors…especially with a good tan!

By the way, when I saw the shoes…I have the same one…same wedge…love them! I wear them all the time with my jeans…hot mama picking the kids up from preschool!

I would wear a cute pair of black strapy heels with the dress…

  18. Love love love the dress! And as for shoes, I’d go with a dark brown, maybe an espadrille or something to get some taupey-tan in there too.

    Cute cute cute!

(And there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with having 3 pairs of black wedges. Or having 5 pairs of red heels…ahem.)

  19. You do have a problem! I buy the same shoes, but in different colors. That is because I am lazy. I find one style and buy all the colors to match any occasion.

I think the dress is brown, but to be safe I would go with the taupe. Cute and safe choice!

(Did you see Heidi Montag’s Jimmy Choo shoes. Gag, I know. But I think something like that would be cute, minus the 10 inch heel.

  20. Love the dress, Ali — it looks very you.

I’d go with black shoes, but that’s because I’m one of those people that thinks black goes with everything.

I’m not really a shoe person…but I am a sneaker whore. I love a good pair of sneaks.

  21. OK, honesty from one shoe addict to another – those shoes are all too boring for that dress. I like your idea of color, maybe yellow? Something with a peep toe for sure, definitely not closed round toe.

  25. I have the PERFECT shoes to go with that dress! They are suede slingbacks with a mid-size heel and the color is cafe noir – they are a brownish black. I got them on sale at Nine West.

So why don’t you just send me the dress and I’ll let you know if it goes? (As if I could ever fit into your clothes…)

The more I look at the dress, the moroue I see all the colors. I wouldn’t go with brown, cuz, I don’t think it will look right. I would go with something strappy, in gray if you can find it. Um, actually I would probably wear my black and white chuck taylors, but I’m weird like that. ;)
