It’s 9pm on Sunday night and I’m already in sweats and in bed buried under at least 3 quilts. I am watching the Falcons game and desperately trying to stay awake long enough to get my Sunday evening dose of my boyfriend Don Draper. From earlier this week when I was at the Sore Throat of Evil (copyright Moose in the Kitchen) stage of my recent bout of plague and I soothed my throat with caffeinated hot beverages and then was up until at least 3am, I have learned my lesson and am now drinking a huge mugful of decaf (am genius).
I am thankful that the weekend is over.
On Friday afternoon, I had convinced myself that this Ali-as-single-parent weekend was going to be the best one yet. I mean, of course I did. Because by Friday afternoon, the 4 of us were sitting in the theater all set to let the wild rumpus start.
(Emily thought it was the very worst movie she had even seen. She was bored and at one point got up and started pacing up and down the aisles. I swear to you. If she had access to the car keys, she may have driven herself home. Which I thought rather interesting because Isabella and Josh were thoroughly entertained throughout, have already downloaded all the music, and have already begged to see it again. twice. I mean, Josh built himself a private Max-like boat not 20 minutes after we got home from the movie. It was complete with hockey stick mast and towel sail)
(I ate him up, I loved him so)
(I thought it was FANTASTIC. As I said on twitter and facebook, I can see how it’ll likely get panned by some critics. The pacing was kind of slow, and it was a serious thinking movie. But the messages, people. MY GOD. Messages about children. about parents. about the world. I think Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers done good. real good.)
WELL, this, friends, was the highlight of the weekend. because it was downhill from there.
I yelled “BE STILL!” but no one seemed to hear me.
My dog managed to poop four times inside the house and is now pretty much living in his crate until I can train him that his business needs to get relieved outside.
My site got HACKED and thank heavens for people like Avitable and DasBecca who not only know how do shit like get rid of phantom admins who wormed their way into the backend of my wordpress (dirty), but also are willing to give their precious Saturday morning time to help a girl like me; a girl who failed to upgrade her wordpress to the newest version because she was lazy.
My son had a baseball practice that we completely underdressed for. I mean, I really don’t want anyone who lives north of, say, Missouri to feel badly for me that it was 54 degrees at the end of October…but we just really weren’t prepared. All of our winter things are in our storage facility in Toronto. It does us tremendous good there.
My son had a baseball game that we underdressed for (whatever. we didn’t learn) and we underprepared for. Josh managed to show up without his cup, without his drink, and without his glove. I managed to show up without any snacks for my girls who, at 3:30 on a Sunday afternoon, were so hungry (“mom…my stomach is eating itself”) you’d think they had been fasting since Thursday, so, you know, I spent all of the money I had on me at the overpriced concession stand to by them healthy snacks like sno-cones and nachos.
My daughter Emily had a full-blown breakdown complete with “don’t ever talk to me again!” and “I hate you so much!” and lots of doors slamming and crying and folded arms and hmphs.
But now, sigh, it’s all good. Because my cold seems to be getting a wee bit better. Because my site seems to be fixed. Because Josh borrowed a glove and managed to make some good plays with it. Because my dog just took a crap outside. Because Emily just came in and apologized and told me that I really am the best mother in the world.
Because we don’t have to do this again until next weekend 😉
