I don’t know if you know Kristabella. If you don’t, you really should. She is hilarious, but is also a fiercely good friend, and a ridiculously good honorary auntie to three kids named Emily, Josh, and Isabella. Sadly for me, Kristin does not live in the Toronto Nosebleeds. So, save for the occasional blogging conference or Shabbat meal she joins us for or trip to the great white north, our relationship exists mostly through gchat. Because of this, she is privy to the very best of my iphone autocorrects. I mean, she is the one who always gets the Wangs. I am not even kidding. Every time I write the word ‘want’ on my iphone, the damn thing changes it to ‘Wang.’ Wha? I mean, not only does it think I use the word wang more often than want, for some reason it believes that I want to capitalize the word too.

Yesterday was no exception.

Only iPhone.

Only iPhone.

(Sidebar: If you missed yesterday’s post about my new project – Project 20 – come on over and check it out. I’m super excited about it and hope all of you will up for a little LOVE SPREADING too!)

  1. Hahaha! I’m so going to make this a word! It totally autotrophic that we don’t live closer!

  2. And every time I misspell fuck as “fyxk”, it never fixes it for me. Fyxkers.

  3. I am suddenly grateful my phone does not have the autocorrect function. Though it would give me something funny to talk about I suppose.

  4. Sometimes I wish I had an iPhone just so I could partake in these hilarious antics.

  6. My iPhone has the crazies too. BUT!!! I wanted to tell you that you can do some sort of computer magic to make Hulu work in other countries. I almost lost my shit when we were in Ireland because I needed to see my shows, and my husband had to do some kind of magic to confuse the computer so that I could use Hulu. Yes, I am addicted to TV. No, I am not proud. Now, the magic…I don’t know what it was, but I’m sure you could find the answer in that wonderland that is Google.

  7. My phone did what to capital W Wang today too. WTF? That is straight up autotrophic.

  8. Maybe it is a good thing that I don’t have a smart phone, it could get people in trouble depending on who they are texting. 🙂

  9. Lmao! I love autocorrect, and even more so when they happen to people I know!!

  10. I love my autocorrect because I’ve taught it all of my curse words. Now, even if I intend to type the word ‘duck,’ it corrects it for me. So smart!

  11. I was texting “I want to go hoooooome!” to my husband last night, and my iPhone tried to change that last word to bookmobile. It cracked me up!

  12. I hated the autocorrect on the android.
Every single time I wrote “thing” or “think” it would spell “thong”

And I texted Sean if Cam had enough snacks for a tournament which ended up saying “does Cam have enough anal for the tournament?”
Really? The word “anal” is more commonly used than the word “snacks”?

Never happens with my bberry. I could never go back to a touchscreen – iphone or otherwise.

  13. Autocorrect is awesome. Especially when it is with a good friend. Or your husband.

(He texted Grrrrr and it came out, “Greeters.”)

  15. My iPhone changed misspelled “bolognese” to “vomit ass” because, clearly, it’s the same thing.

  16. “I thought it was some technology term for why it doesn’t work in Canada” — That made me laugh so hard!
    Autocorrect is hilarious, man.

  17. I have the following disclaimer at the bottom of my emails (on mobile)

“–Sent hastily from my mobile. Please forgive HTC and it’s somewhat overzealous auto-correct.”

When in fact it’s my fault, I should learn to actually read what I wrote before i hit send…

but I’m lazy to say the least.

  18. Um, my Droid does THE SAME THING. I hate it. The other day it auto-corrected “beautiful” to “consortium”…and I’d already sent the email to my editor before I noticed!

  19. Random question…how do you talk through gmail on your phone? Is there an app I’m missing?

Comment by Issa on April 27, 2011
  20. I’m currently on my iPhone 4 and the auto-correct annoys me more than it helps me. The only time it’s useful is when I botch spelling. But the fact that it’ll completely change words sometimes without me noticing, making what I write make no sense, Sometimes it’s not so helpful (always corrects “hell” to “he’ll” no matter how many times in a row I type it). But sometimes it’s really helpful (I don’t have to type as accurately).
