i’m a bit of a wreck this morning…i’m trying to figure out where to send Isabella to school next year and am really coming up with nothing, i’m trying to figure out what i was thinking wanting to have a family party for Isabella at our house with 30+ people the night before i go away to Atlanta for the weekend (yes! without kids! cheesecake factory here i come!), and i’m trying to figure out what the hell a mouse was doing crossing my path on my way in to work this morning. eek!

but, it’s thursday, and i do owe you a thursday thirteen.

a few weeks back we discussed the best tv show season-ending cliffhangers. (please note…i would now have to add the season one finale of Lost to this list because seriously? it was AMAZING. the raft? the hatch? that’s good tv right there…) anyway, so i thought today we’d discuss the best tv series finales. we all know that Seinfeld was just about the worst one ever…and most people will say Six Feet Under is the best, but alas, i have yet to watch it (i know, i know, maybe i’ll start after i’m done with Lost)

so, here are mine, in no particular order:

1. Cheers

2. Roseanne

3. Mad About You

4. Frasier

5. Mary Tyler Moore Show

6. Newhart

7. Wonder Years

8. Everwood

9. Arrested Development

10. Mash

11. Sopranos

12. Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (technically, the tonight show is still on…but i think this one should be allowed…since it was REALLY an ending of a show)

13. Roswell

what are yours???

  1. M*A*S*H is still by number one. I still cry when I see it. “It was a baby!!!”

Hated the MadAboutYou finale. Like they would really get divorced! Poor Mabel. “Mother Always Brings Extra Love.”

The last Will & Grace was so-so except the duet with Jack and Karen, which was a tear-jerker!!!!

  2. I’m ashamed to say, I only remember the Sopranos one.

  3. Cheers!!! Best show ever start to finish! I miss that show, (does that make me sound pathetic?) You have so far to go on LOST, catch up!

  4. Six Feet Under, fer sure!

  5. The Frasier finale was FAB! Loved that (partly because I didn’t really care that the show was ending, and it was a super funny episode). And, Arrested Development could do NO wrong in my books. Unbelievable that that show got canceled so quickly! Unbelievable!

  6. Frasier, FRIENDS, Mary Tyler Moore, I Love Lucy, Everybody Loves Raymond, Wonder Years, Wings, and I haven’t seen the Sopranos finale yet because I got started on the series later and I’m not that far along yet.

  7. Oh, I loved that finale on Mad About You. I like it when they tell what’s going to happen in the future. I cry like a baby every time I see that episode.

How bout 90210? Would that make me a giant dork? If so, then I didn’t like it at all. 😉

  8. Cheers was the first show ending that made me cry like a baby. My fav? Friends of course.

  9. my favorite is six feet under because it gave me a glimpse of the future for those characters, making me feel like I got the FULL ending, not just when the show stopped.

that’s not a complete spoiler, is it?

  10. Definitely Cheers — I LOVE that Rebecca burned down the bar. Six Feet Under, too, and Friends.

  11. I thought the Sex and the City finale was one of the best series finales I’ve ever seen. We’re working our way through Six Feet Under and I am really excited to see the finale, even though I already know what’s going to happen. (Of all things to spoil it for me, I never thought an innocent evening of watching Jeopardy! would do it. Suck it, Trebek.)

  12. Friends ended like it should, so that made me warm and fuzzy. But Sex And The City is the one that has me shouting and whooping for Big and Carrie (and we FINALLY get to find out his real name!).

Other than that, how about Reunion or Studio 60. Those were awesome finalies and you get it all wrapped up in the end … oh wait. (Assholes!)

  13. You have to watch Six Feet Under!

And I am still super pissed that Arrested Development was cancelled. It was such a brilliant show.

  14. My memory fails: I can’t remember any cliffhangers!

  15. Thank you for not including Seinfeld…that one was a loser. I think MASH was the first show I remember that made a big deal of the final show. Everyone watched it…at my college. Yes, little Ali…when you were three and your parents were watching it…I was watching it at college!

  16. M*A*S*H!!!!!!! Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen. Oh Man! I loved it – L.O.V.E. So many tears!

Comment by Jen on August 20, 2007
  17. By the time it reached it’s finale, MASH had become so mawkish and preachy that it’s ending was well overdue. The show had run four times as long as the actual Korean war! I loved the finales of Mary Tyler Moore and Cheers. Some of the cleverest I can remember were Six Feet Under, St. Elsewhere and Hill Street Blues. And I loved the last episode of my fave TV show of all time (so far) Rome.
