July 16 12

I woke up super early this morning.

It’s 0600. What’s the O stand for? “Oh my God, it’s early!”

It was an effort to get some really good work in before I had to wake my kids to get ready for camp, because one they are up and we start the whiny morning pre-camp brigade, there’s little-to-no productivity work-wise. So, I got up, and was actually super productive between six and eight. And then!

8am came and I have used my WTF face at least eight times since then.

Because the following things happened.

I took Isabella to THE WRONG CAMP THIS MORNING. Oh yes, I did.

My free Target hand sanitizer exploded in my purse, so I was that lady who was emptying all the contents of her bag right in the middle of the hallway of Thornhill Woods public school. I even wiped my cell phone on my pants. Classy.

I got into an altercation with a woman who only spoke Russian because she was convinced that I was trying to cut her off in the parking lot. I was doing no such thing.

I had to pry a pair of my hanky pankys out of my pervy dog’s mouth. Because, you know, we thought he had outgrown his panty-eating puppy nickname and yet here I am, having to toss another pair of my favorite underpants and having to discipline a dog.

I really, really miss my Emily. I have seen some photos of her on the special camp photo gallery and she’s super smiley and looks really happy, but I’d just really like to have some sort of tangible anything from her. Stupid Canada post. There are things I need to talk to her about, like how the brand-new cupcake store that opened right near our house is not good—which is both good news (for my ass!) and bad news (for my taste buds!). I know she’s having the best time…I just wish I had a letter that proved it.

(It’s a BIG smile. Mama is pleased.)

But lest you think I’m a debbie downer on this fine Monday

(Actually I’m super annoyed with Monday but everyone on Twitter was saying that there’s far too much negative in the world, but I don’t know, I disagree, I don’t think I’m a particularly negative person, or particularly whiny in general, and I see nothing wrong with venting when Monday just needs a good punch in the neck…)

I have been wondering if this little screen-less summer experiment was going to pay off or if it was really just going to be more work for me.

I will tell you right now.

It’s working.

Yesterday, Josh and Isabella decided together that since we don’t really know our neighbors all the well, they want to do something about it. So…they are creating their very own STREET PARTY. And they asked us for help with signs and with games and activities.

My children are working together.

On a project.

To meet more of their neighbors.

It’s just like the Queen’s Jubilee, only with more chalk drawings and homemade lemonade.

I couldn’t be prouder.

  1. So cute that they are doing that. It’s really great to know your neighbours, how else will it not be creepy when you ask them for a glass of wine or an egg (I have done this)? Also: Sometimes Mondays do need a punch in the neck and I call shenanigans on people who are ALWAYS positive. It’s just not real.

  2. That’s good you get the photos of her. I’m sure she is having a blast! She’ll be back before you know it!

I love that they are doing a street party!

  9. I want to be at your street party, your kids are so fun.

Shocking side bar: I have no idea where you quoted a movie, let alone WHAT movie. I know.
