Earlier this week, and I’m not even sure how it happened, the girls and I re-created the Matchmaker scene from Fiddler On The Roof. You know the one. I mean, we’re talking complete with towels that we used to become Yenta. It was hilarious and ridiculous, and basically the most fun I have had in ages. We sang, we danced, we laughed until our bellies ached.

Did you catch that? We danced.

*I* danced.

Up until that Taylor Swift song came out a very short time ago, the only dancing I did was to stretch out my freshly-washed jeans or that one time I participated in a Thriller flash mob.

And there was that unfortunate Motownphilly incident.

I was a self-proclaimed Brandon Walsh who just didn’t dance when everyone else was dancing.

And then came that whole Shake It Off movement. Oh, yes, to you it’s just a catchy song. Probably the song that made you finally admit that you kind of dig Taylor Swift. There’s no shame in that, I have been SWFing her for quite some time. But really, in my house, it has been a movement. The movement to get me to move, if you will. Isabella and I, every single night, dance around the house to this song. We are beyond goofy and silly, and we know we look like total goobers because Emily may have some video footage hidden somewhere.

But we don’t care at all. I just don’t even care. For the first time ever. I’m like Forrest Gump when he started running and just couldn’t stop. And it makes me ridiculously happy.

“…I don’t think it’s the most important thing in life to fit in. I think it’s the most important thing in life to dance to the beat of your own drum and to look like you’re having more fun than the people who look cool…”

Isabella just snagged herself a role in her school’s production of High School Musical so basically we’re all in this together — looking like we’re having more fun that the cool people. Because we totally are.

  1. Um, I beg to differ! There was nothing unfortunate about the Motown Philly incident.

    Yay Bella!

  2. My dancing was unfortunate — that’s not debatable.

  3. We do it here all the time too, I just don’t tell to many folks, but I’m quite the party animal! Congrats to Bella!
