At 12:30pm on Sunday night I got a text from her: Can you please come and pick me up? I know I told you that you only had to pick me up from the movie and take me to my friend’s house, but now I realize that I don’t have any of my things and I can’t possibly sleep without brushing my teeth and I love you and I miss your face and, well, pretty please my mama do you mind just picking me up quickly?

Me: Uhhhhhgh. Emily, I’m watching The Walking Dead and seriously this is the best episode in a really long time.

Her: Oh, and can two of my friends come too and sleep at our house?

Me: Uhhhh.

This is my life now, basically.

Driving to the movie theater, picking up from so-and-so’s house, just picking her up from school because she has to stay late, drive me to his house, pick me up from her house, can you take me quickly to Shoppers Drug Mart, Can you drive us to the mall, can you pick us up from the mall.

Only almost 15.

I might be the only mother on the planet counting down the days until this child gets her license.
