Josh and I are currently at a standstill.

I want him to cut his hair.

He refuses to cut his hair.

What Josh thinks:

“wow. i love Luke Skywalker. He’s, like, the COOLEST Jedi ever! he’s so not just a whiny little farm boy who can’t act, Mommy. he’s awesome! and you know who else is awesome??? Han Solo. he’s so badass. i totally want to be just like them!”

you are seeing it now, aren’t you? the uncanny follicle-y resemblance?

What Josh doesn’t realize:

Star Wars came out in 1977

oy.

I let hime have it this way because I know when he grows up he will keep a short cut and have less options if he wants to be a successful adult.
Why not have some Jedi fun now!

  40. Ok, your son rocks simply because he likes Han Solo & Luke Skywalker (and the fact that he’s so darn cute). I do like the long hair, but if I were his mom, I would make him cut it too. It’s just something neurotic about us mothers that insist our kids don’t look “like shaggy dogs.” LOL

    Happy Friday!

  41. He’s got great hair, sorry to say. I had a major crush on Luke too.
That being said, I totally sympathize with you. My 8 yo boy went through all last year not wanting a haircut (he lucked out, though, he also rocks the long locks)… seriously, dragging him to get it cut was all out war, he screamed and kicked, and he’s BIG!
Funny thing this year, he’s been asking for a haircut; not a shearing, but the occasional trim.
So I think this phase too, shall pass for your boy.

  44. He looks cute. My 10 year olds hair is much longer (I’d kill for thick wavy hair like his)- he cut it for the summer and now it’s back. I figure don’t sweat the small stuff – I let him have his hair and he trusts me to tell me what crazy things(read scary for boys their age) is going on in his life – because I am the “coolest Mom”. It’s killing my hubby mother so there is an upside.

  45. Yes, that hair style is “cool” right now but I feel your pain! Man, I feel like the “teen years” are happening so much earlier these days where kids know what they want and they will fight to get it.
I am dreading the day that I don’t have control over my kids’ clothing and looks anymore.

  48. Hair style is a personal choice and a form of self expression. It’s good that he doesn’t want to follow trends. There are many people with long hair even today.
Abe Lincoln had the longest hair of all American Presidents. Bob Dylan,Elvis,Jesus,Hippies etc. All had long hair and all were good.
Former 2 time heavyweight boxing champion Shannon Briggs has long hair as did heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis. Bruce Lee had long hair.
As long as long hair is clean and taken care of,it’s cool.
    It’s not feminine,and it’s not uncommon.
What’s uncool is following trends and having an ultra conservative military hair cut on a child who ought to be free and happy as well as comfortable in his own skin.
