It took forever for Miss Emily to lose teeth. She was six before the first one fell out. and then she became the sharkgirl, growing new teeth in underneath her old teeth. in the last little while, she has gone on a tooth-losing rampage, earning herself about $80 in cash. i know. i know. Well, while I was away, her daddy took her to the store to make her dreams come true.ร‚ย  My 8-year-old is the official owner of this…

one day my life will be quiet again.

sigh

Her first project on the guitar was teaching herself to play edelweiss. I swear. She’s used the guitar all but three times and is playing edelweiss. WHERE DID THIS CHILD COME FROM?

speaking of everyone’s favorite austrian theme song…Emily got her part in The Sound of Music last night. After her initial disappointment that she was not, in fact, going to play Gretl, or Leisel, or Maria, she seemed to be excited about her 9 lines and her opening-the-show solo (another solo!) of The Sound of Music and her being in almost every single song and scene. She is playing a nun.

Of one thing i am certain. my daughter is going to look awesome in her veil and habit. and, she’ll have herself a Halloween costume to boot (bonus!) and who doesn’t love a toothless nun with a guitar?

  3. So jealous. I want that guitar!

Halloween contest — Ha! You only wish, right!?!

  4. Your daughter has a real talent for music, both with her voice and her ability to pick up songs quickly on the guitar. Emily truly is gifted. She reminds me of my girls when they were young. Both are self-taught on the piano and Dani plays flute and piccolo (or she used to anyway), and they both sing. Encourage her all you can!

  7. Be thankful she didn’t bring home a drum set. Or a kazoo. At worst it’s like you’re keeping a hippie in the closet, and who doesn’t love that?
And tell her congrats on the part. As someone who has made a career out of being 3rd tap dancer on the left, there’s much to be said for the nuns.

  8. What a pretty guitar! And at least she didn’t buy a drum set.

  11. I didn’t lose my first tooth until second grade. How old are you then? Seven? I only lost it because my brother pulled it out.

Yay Emily! We can all say we knew her when, when she becomes a big, famous star!

  16. At least her music is more traditional. I bought my 3 yr old an acoutstic for his Bday and he plays All the single ladies by Beyonce, Heartless by Kanye West and we will rock you by Queen.

I agree with April – Edelweiss is just fine – I can see my kids doing The Clash and Metallica. ๐Ÿ™‚

  18. My kid would have tried the Doodlebops. I don’t know if that’s better or worse than Edelweiss.

Also – congratulations to Emily! That’s awesome that she got another part at her age.

  22. Apparently the longer you keep your baby teeth, the stronger your adult teeth will be!
I lost my last one at 16…i’m REALLY delayed ๐Ÿ˜€

  23. I actually have many fond memories of toothless, guitar playing nuns. Oh how I wish I was kidding. Actually, she wasn’t toothless but she had a Madonna-sized gap between her front ones and when she sang the praises of Jesus, her missing side teeth gaps were absolutely fascinating to stare at from my preschooler vantage point.

  24. She’s like Avril Lavigne! Only prettier. And less angsty. And with a much better fashion sense. So, basically, they both play guitar.
