Isabella says “becept” instead of “except.”

She says “uppost to” instead of “supposed to.”

She says “TimPortant” instead of “Tim Hortons.”

This is all that’s left of my baby.

These three things.

She says them entirely wrong every single time and yet I cannot bring myself to correct her. And, if you know me at all, you’d know that not correcting one of my family members takes a rather large amount of restraint on my part.

(“He came over to my dad and I…”

“Babe, it’s my dad and me.”

“No, Ali. You weren’t there.)

She is growing up far too quickly for my liking. Her soft blonde baby curls — that took her exactly three years to grow — are practically gone and have been replaced by big kid dirty-blond straight layers. That last bit of chub I was holding onto – – her muffin-y hands and feet — has disappeared and has been replaced by big kid fingers and toes; lanky limbs that want to do things like ride bikes and jump on trampolines and play guitar. She puts her hand on her hip and hauls out the heavy attitude while she tells me all about how she promises that she doesn’t make out with her boyfriend at school. Her dresses from the fall have all become tunics and shirts and can only be worn with leggings.

In four short months, my rapidly-growing shortie will be A FIRST GRADER.

Hold me.

I just hope her teacher never corrects her uppost tos and becepts either.

  1. I’m still holding on to mine saying “examples” instead of “samples” like those you can get at Costco. Sigh.

    Where’s the pause button?

Love the new layout BTW, I know how late I am ok? 😉

  2. Ha! You aren’t that late! I only launched my new design in the middle of last week 🙂

  3. I’m thinking about homeschooling my third child so no one corrects her pronunciations.

Today she had “stomach eggs” (stomach aches). Makes me smile.

  4. Whenever we travel, my 6-year-old daughter insists on packing her own soupcase. 🙂

  5. Since last week, my youngest changed “uppa bubba” to “up above the” in Twinkle Twinkle little star. Broke my freaking heart. 🙁

  6. Ana cannot say “sp” yet. All of her “sp” words sound like “f”.

    foon,faghetti, frinkles, farkles… it’s very fecial.

  7. My mother-in-law died a little when E. started saying “seven” instead of “senen.” We used to ask him which number Toby (from Thomas the Tank Engine) is, just to get him to say it.

  8. Oh, ALI. Sigh. I was just thinking this same thing about Dylan. Thankfully, he’s my oldest so I have two more “babies” at home. Zach will be pissed if he knows I called him a baby. Ollie totally qualifies.

  9. It’s crazy how it happens. One minute they are so little…and then, BAM. Mini-adults. It’s not fair. I will just have to pretend that your are mine. Hee.

  10. 1) I love that photo of her.

    2) But can she say vanilla yet?

Comment by Kristabella on May 10, 2011
  11. HA! I was totally going to link to the vanilla movie! It’s one of my favorites.
    SADLY…she now can say it.
But I really miss her valinna days…

  12. That makes me sad! That was so awesome!

  13. My little sister (who is now 21) used to say “monther” instead of “monster” – of course it confused strangers who couldn’t understand why our mother was hiding in her closet.

  14. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that someone told me I mispronounce the word “ambulance.” I have been saying “ambliance” my entire life and at this point I don’t think it’s worth the effort to change. I’m gonna start telling people who call me on it that my pronunciation of “ambliance” is to keep my inner child alive and kicking. 😉

  15. My 3 1/2 year old (who looks very much like a 5 year old), has all these wonderful sayings that I never correct, and I hope she never stops saying either. My favorites are “flamily” instead of family, “perftec” instead of perfect, and “breaftaks” instead of breakfast. Her dad thinks that we should correct her when she says them that way, but I say “nooo!”

  16. Oh, what a precious post! My daughter who will be turning 4 years old in June is already changing on me – it makes me sad. I am happy though that I’ve kept a log of all the crazy-funny things she’s said or done till now.

  17. That’s so crazy — my 6-year old says “TimPortance” too! And “incept” (for except). Also, my 4-year old has a “soupcase” as well.

  18. My goodness, little kids saying stuff incorrectly melts my heart. I hope she doesn’t get corrected for a while too!
