Breakfast is, by far, my most favorite meal of the day. They say it’s the most important one, and if I could have my choice, I’d have the most important one at least three times a day. Yes. I would totally eat breakfast foods for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And I often do. Cereal for dinner? Why not? Eggs for lunch? Don’t mind if I do! Waffles for an afternoon snack? Of course!

They are just not on the same wavelength as I am. They like breakfast, they just don’t like like it, if you catch my drift. Imagine, they only want to eat it in the morning! It’s like I don’t even know them…

You guys, it may have taken me a few years, but I kind of have got breakfast DOWN.  Because I am a creature of habit, and usually in a gigantic hurry to hustle the children out the door, it’s all Mini-wheats and coffee for me. Easy Peasy, and of course, delicious. My kids, however, are not creatures of habit, and require a little bit more creativity. My older daughter Emily, for instance, is not a fan of dairy products. I KNOW, right? Who is this kid, and where does she come from? So, no dairy for her. So, quick morning because tricky. Bagels and lox. Crackers and hummus. Eggs over medium. Grapefruit. Cinnamon toast. Depending on time and availability, she usually has one of these. Joshua and Isabella are less picky, and usually opt for cereal or yogurt or fruit. The two of them, obviously, are big fans of dairy.

Weekends are a different beast altogether. Because those mornings are more relaxed and there are usually no alarm clocks or school uniforms or packing lunches or racing involved, I tend to try to celebrate this ability for a laid-back morning with coffee (for me) and donuts (for them). Well, maybe the donuts are for me too. It’s our cheat day, and I’d like to think we deserve one. And if it’s not donuts, it’s something over-the-top, like biscuits and gravy and turkey bacon and all the lovely things my southern blood likes to eat. Or leftover challah french toast. Or pink chocolate-chip pancakes.

No. I’m not kidding.

WHAT? They were delicious. In fact, I may have them for dinner tonight.

  1. During the week it’s rushed since I work full time – so it’s granola bars/muffins/cereal. On the weekends I love to make big breakfasts! We make chocolate chip pancakes, bacon, eggs, hashbrowns, etc 🙂

Comment by Michelle on August 11, 2010
  2. I’m too lazy to make breakfast at home, so I usually bring my English muffin and cream cheese to work with me and use the toaster here.

Comment by Kristabella on August 11, 2010
  3. Depends on the day, during the week, I eat a granola bar at work. Sometimes I mix it up and bring in a yogurt.

For the weekend, it is typically anything from cereal to eggs to pancakes to a baked goodie from the farmers market.

Now we get very elborate when we make breakfast for dinner…fancy omlets, pancakes, french toast or any combo.

Comment by Christina on August 11, 2010
  4. I usually grab a yogurt or a granola bar and the kids like pop tarts for breakfast.

  6. My morning breakfast consists of one of the following:
    – Honey Nut Cheerios & Light Vanilla Soy Milk
    – Frosted Strawberry Pop Tarts (on really hectic mornings… like the ones where the puppy feels the need to inspect every patch of grass in the neighborhood before she does her business)
    – Protein Shake (generally egg white protein, frozen banana & strawberries, non fat Greek yogurt, and coconut water)

Comment by Darcey on August 11, 2010
  7. I am a big breakfast fan/freak. I make pinwheel waffles of all colors and pancakes of of shape size, flavor and size. One of my favorite inventions is crossiant filled with cream cheese and fruit. I make my own cereal bars for treats when the neighborhood comes. My house is the bus stop, and so around 15 kids grab something 4 or 5 days a week here, I found budget breakfasts can be healthy and home made. The night before trick is often the best.

However, I am also in love with Kashi products, so I usually manage to have the most important meal of the day. Does it still count as breakfast when you sometimes wake up at 11??

I have a huge pet peeve about eating before school..if she skips breakfast I feel like the world’s worst mommy so there’s a lot of me yelling to “EAT SOMETHING” in the morning as she’s trying to get ready. Even a granola bar eases my mom-guilt.

On the days that he runs late, sometimes he will pick us up a hot breakfast to go or we just fend for ourselves and hit the cereal and milk.

  108. oh, I just had to laugh at that picture! Breakfast has never looked like that at our house (although I’m sure my kids would’ve loved them)! On weekdays, my husband and kids get their own breakfast (cereal or PopTarts). If we have time on the weekend, we cook.

  109. I normally skip out on breakfast. My kiddos like pancakes, eggs, or cereal in the morning. When my hubby is home he fixes the works! I just cant go crazy like that in the morning lol!

  110. I usually just have coffee for breakfast. The kids get something like cereal or eggs & toast. Ocassionally pancakes & sausage.

  111. I am going to need to know how you did the pink pancakes. I would get some MAJOR cool points for those!
We do cereal during the week and I usually try to cook a big breakfast on Saturday.

  114. I would say our most common breakfast is eggs scrambled with a bit of cheese, toast and fruit.

  115. Breakfast isn’t too bad here. The kids generally eat it fast enough to suit me when we’re running late. Of course, it is summer. School starts in a few weeks and our breakfast routine is definitely going to change.

  116. I have coffee and a little something sweet when I first wake up. Maybe a danish, or even a cookie or brownie. I’m not a morning person and I need to bribe myself with a treat to get out of bed, LOL! Then I check my emails and have a sensible breakfast a little later, like cereal or a banana and orange juice. Then I shower and get ready for work.

  117. I work 1st shift so i’m usually up and out the door before anyone is up. Hubby takes care of breakfast for the kids. Usually something quick on the weekdays like cereal or pop tarts. I don’t usually eat breakfast too early in the morning. On the weekends however we try to have a big family breakfast together.

  118. We cook some eggs and sausages and eat them in the car

  119. I have a 6 month old. So, he usually helps me make my breakfast (a bowl of cereal or waffles). Then we heat up his (usually rice cereal, applesauce or a veggie puree). Then we both sit down at the table and eat together!

  120. I prefer cereal for myself in the mornings; my grandkids all have different preferences for breakfast…one has a scrambled egg plus fruit; I keep pancakes frozen in the refrigerator; and all of them like my oven cinnamon toast. But I don’t have the responsibility of getting them off to school each day etc and all but the two youngest can get their own breakfasts and they have siblings who can make breakfast for them.

  122. During the week I eat a banana and instant oatmeal. The weekends tend to just be whatever I have around that looks good from leftover pizza to cereal.

  123. My boys love to eat cereal or oatmeal. Every once in awhile I will make pancakes for a special treat, but I have never made them pink!

  124. Weekday breakfast is usually cold cereal and orange juice. Saturdays I’ll make pancakes, french toast, or eggs. Sundays I like to make cinnamon rolls out of tube biscuits.

  125. Everyone is up and about at different times so we all have our own routines. Mine involves feeding all the animals as I’m first up and then relaxing with coffee. I don’t eat until I get to work and usually then have a bagel with cream cheese. No milk available at the office cafeteria so no cereal.

  129. Well… I’m used to it so I don’t notice, but when my parents are here, they run into the guest room when we come down for breakfast, and stay there until the chaos is over. Non-morning people should not have to get non-morning children to the school bus at 6:33 AM 🙂

  132. Up, shower, get kids up and feed all – cereal, frozen pancakes (homemade), waffles, scones and I usually try to get some fruit in my kids although I’m not always successful! Coffee for me! Take care of pets, dress and off to school.

  133. Thanks for the giveaway. In the morning I eat a bowl of cereal with milk + add frozen fruit, or in the summer I add strawberries and raspberries from the back yard.

  134. Our typical morning routine is that I wake up first with the baby and make her and me oatmeal. THen our two older daughters wake up and make themselves Eggos and later my son and husband wake up last and have bowls of cereal. We never eat breakfast together but we always eat dinner as a family.

  135. Ours is pretty simple…. My boys…one prefers cold cereal or pop-tarts and the other is not a morning eater, for me it’s coffee.

Comment by BrendaLea on August 16, 2010
  136. My son’s typical breatfast is yogurt, fruit and a poptart, or McDonald’s. My morning breakast is 2 sausage and egg burritos from McDonald’s every morning, and about 4-5 cups of coffee 🙂

On the weekends, if he’s home I may make breakfast (pancakes or omlettes) or we’ll go out for brunch @ Cracker Barrel 🙂

  140. I need to get a morning routine! I always say that I am going to make myself breakfast in the morning, but I usually don’t feel hungry by the time I leave my house. But that is a big mistake because I start feeling hungry on my one hour drive to work so I end up stopping at a fast food place for some greasy foods that my body really doesn’t need. I need to be more prepared and pack a healthy breakfast that I can eat in the car on my way to work.
