Getting out of the house in the morning, well, it looks a little something like this:

Roll out of bed. Throw on some clothing. usually yoga pants and a tshirt.

Pour Isabella a bowl of cereal.

Wake Josh up.

Wake Josh up.

Wake Josh up.

Fight with Emily about what she’s going to eat for breakfast.

Pour Isabella a second bowl of cereal.

Wake Josh up again.

Fight with Isabella about what she is going to wear.

Give up fighting (picking my battles, yo!) and allow her to wear a dress. AGAIN.

Wake Josh up again.

Wake up Josh again.

Brush Emily’s hair.

Make lunches.

Physically drag Josh out of bed; spray him with water.

Remake lunches because no one liked them the first time.

Pour Josh a bowl of cereal.

Let Indiana out.

Dress Josh while he’s eating his cereal.

Pour Josh a second bowl of cereal.

Fight with Isabella to get her shoes on.

Fight with Josh to get his shoes on.

Put Indy in his crate.

Set the alarm.

Get us out the door.

DO NOT EAT BREAKFAST OR DRINK COFFEE.

Want to weep the entire way to camp.

Want to weep the entire way home from camp.

Want to weep for not having this in my hands.

BUT! I have started doing something fantastic!

I bought a travel mug AND a box of All-Bran bars.

Instant breakfast. Which, I assure you, keeping me from weeping and makes it a little nicer for everyone around me. Trust me.

  1. Morning for me is tip-toe, quiet, quiet, be vewwwwy quiet…or else the kids will hear me getting ready for work, thunder downstairs, and want me to do unreasonable, social things like interact with them and pour them cereal.

Friday school begins. Then all bets are off. I think this year I may get a bugle!

Hey, cereal people? Moms in Canada have hellish mornings too.

  3. Well my mornings consist of me hoping the kids stay asleep long enough for me to shower and get ready for work. Then attempt to put on my makeup while the baby tries to eat it and empty out my makeup bag, oh and all while listening to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. And then just as I’m sneaking out the front door my daughter wakes up crying that I didnt give her a hug&kiss. After she gets her billion hugs and kisses she starts whining that she wants milk but her daddy cant get for her only me. So I end up being late to work for the 3rd time that week!

  10. RIght now mine consists of one kid running into the bedroom and throwing a video or DVD at me and telling me its his/her turn to pick a movie.
I then drag myself out of bed, turn on the coffee maker, get the kids milk or juice, and listen to them fight for the next hour or so over whether we’re having pancakes or oatmeal for breakfast, while I drink coffee and catch up on what I missed on the internet last night. Yee-ha baby.

  16. Wanna get the summer morning schedule, weekend one, or the SCHOOL year one? Tomorrow starts a new school year so we will go with that!
THIS coming from an incurable insomniac that is up all night online or doing laundry and dishes until 4 AM.
Alarm ONE rings at 6…hubby. Coffee, grabs briefcase, kiss g’bye and he’s OFF. (donuts if anything).
Second alarm…6:30. RIGHT after I dozed off. 17 year old. Showers, makeup, STAY IN THE BATHROOM ALL MORNING! Yell at her to grab something to eat. Cereal in a bag…she HAS to get to school for the half-hour of social time before class. (Note…last years backpack had over a DOZEN baggies of smooshed poptarts, granola bars, or cereal in it. Icky.) THIRD alarm at 6:40…my early teen son. RIGHT to breakfast just as MY alarm rings.
MY alarm…6:45. HIt again. 6:54…ARGH! Get my 10 year old out still half asleep.Breakfast leisurely; cereal, bagel, or poptarts & milk. ALWAYS running out the door at last minute to get ride to school from neighbor. Get those two out the door. Let dog out. Clean up after them all…fold laundry, eat MY breakfast. sigh…mourn for my kids growing up too fast.

My morning begins the night before when I set my alarm to get up before the kids so I can get myself presentable…the morning begins with me hitting the snooze alarm a few times…the kids waking ME up..and then trying to throw some breakfast together while they’re off getting dressed and brushing their hair. On those mornings I get up later that I hoped (i.e. pretty much every day), some toasted frozen waffles or cereal or instant oatmeal are placed before the kidlets…much to their delight. 🙂

Throw clothes on him while he’s running around the house and then zip out the door (me frazzled and sweaty, him protesting about his shoes). Drop him off at daycare. I grab Dunkin Donuts on my way to the office.

I check my email then the kettle whistles. I set the tea to steep and go write a blog post. Midway through I grab my cup of Irish Breakfast tea and finish writing. I go make breakfast- two eggs usually poached and whole grain toast. I have another cup of tea. I take my vitamins. Then I go get ready for work. I’ve probably been up for 1.5 hours at this point. And yet! I am still usually late for work. Go figure.

I work 2nd shift so there’s frequently that moment of panic when I realize I hit the snooze button one too many times and now we have t-minus 10 minutes to get it out the door or be marked late at school (daughter had detention last year because we were late so many times) Breakfast is the big skimp on those mornings and I refuse to suffer mommy-guilt because my daughter didn’t eat something before leaving the house. Those are the mornings we grab a cold pop-tart, cereal bar, banana, squeeze yogurt or even cookies as we’re flying out the front door.
