August 8 08

so, the goal this week was to enjoy the silence. turn off the tv. do things i don’t normally do. so, now that i’m finally feeling like a human again (once again, i do not recommend food poisoning. WORST), i had great plans for last night. they involved me, my deck, a glass of wine, and my new book, How the Other Half Hamptons (it doesn’t get much chicklitier than this…).

my flannel pj pants, my sorry freezing ass and i all lasted exactly 3.4 minutes.

fucking Canada, man. today is supposed to be a high of 20 degrees (which is roughly 68 degrees to my American friends) and since we haven’t seen the sun in well over a month, i can assure you, it’s NOT warm.

so, we hauled ass to the couch. where i read indoors. which is SO not the same. and i didn’t watch TV, but may as well have because Sam gave me a totally awesome play-by-play of the So You Think You Can Dance finale. can i just say YAYAYAY!

the husband sent me this picture.

and after i died laughing, i realized that she was stuck in the abyss that is my parents’ 2.5 car garage. the place where sports equipment and old religious artifacts and starbucks bags(?) and everything else under the sun (i know…what sun?) goes to die.

so, i email gabe: “i wonder if my dead chameleon is still in there?”

two minutes later i get this

oh, Donnie Wahlberg, you are still there! in my mom’s garage!** i haven’t seen you since, well, since you died.

in 1992. when i was in 6th grade.

yes, Danyelle and i got matching chameleons – of course, aptly named for our favorite New Kids on the Block (yes, yes, my favorite was Joey. but i DID go through a Donnie phase) – and loved on them until they died roughly three days after we so excitedly purchased them. hanging tough, y’all.

**the funny this is that my dad’s garage, in Atlanta, is so nice you could eat off the floor. i swear. it has paintings on the wall. PAINTINGS? in a garage! this is merely ONE of the reasons why i’m so screwed up!

reason #185 that my sister and i are twins.

her: that picture of Isabella eating the peach buck naked is awesome!

me: i know! isn’t it? there were about 800 other shots, but they were all a little too nipple-y to put online. the last thing i need is some perv looking at nudey shots of my daughter

her: and you don’t want to be arrested for child pornography!!

me: ???!?!?!???

her: don’t you remember? there was that whole case of that dude who put pictures of his kids online and then he got arrested and accused of running some underground child pornography ring??

me: no!

her: maybe it was on CSI.

buh dum dum.

ah, i love her so. she IS me. i miss her terribly. she and i could probably talk about the garage for about an hour.

ps. you may notice i have a lovely new button on my sidebar. this one:

because i love jumping. and i love bandwagons.

the lovely Kristen of Motherhood Uncensored has gone and declared August to be Blog the Recession month. In her words, because they are far superior to anything i could come up with…

The premise is simple. If you read blogs, then for the month of August, make the “pledge” to click through from your feed reader. No obligation to leave a hilarious comment or send a long stalkerish email (although both, within reason, are always lovely). Just click through to the blog (not on ads unless you are so led) and if you’re feeling generous, click around to their older posts.

Just those extra page views can make a big difference for bloggers who could really use the help, or in my case, where page views don’t matter so much, a big fat ego boost.

So…hop to it! click, click clickety click!!

what are you waiting for????

  1. Sorry you could not enjoy being outside. Since the heat index here was over 100 or 38 for you, you would not have been outside here either.

  2. OMG! I thought Isabella was at MY parents house for a minute. That is SO what their garage AND basement look like. Everytime my kids stay there for a weekend, they bring random items home from my childhood. My parents kept EVERY. SINGLE. FISHER. PRICE. TOY. EVER! Are you kidding me? Also…my oldest wanted to bring home my SAXOPHONE.

  3. Wow… I thought my father was bad with the “never throw anything away you never know when you might need it”.

But a chameleon that’s been dead 16 years? That takes the cake.

    (Doesn’t it smell or something?)

  4. My kids will be talking about our garage that way. It happens.

Love her spongebob life vest. Love that it only took him 2 minutes to send the picture of the chameleon!

  17. My father recently got rid of his chest freezer and in doing so, he had to part with my youngest brother’s goldfish, Finley, that he won at a fair when he was five. Finley died a few years later, and my father froze him for all eternity.

  22. I still have my gecko that died when I was in junior high. It’s in this weird little jewelry box coffin. I have no idea why I’ve never thrown it out. I think I was really curious if it would go to heaven one day. And I suppose a part of me still wants to open it up and it magically not be there.

Gross, I know! I think maybe on that admission, I’ll go throw it away. 🙂
