(tendonitis. fuck. i wish it had been a sprain or a break..that would be easy to fix. the good news is that Dr. Jack (who also bought me a sweet new tripod for the husband’s birthday this week. mmm. kisses!) gave me a buttload of drugs…mmm…drugs. and hopefully they will take so i won’t need any physio or steroid injections…but i’m doubtful. still hurts something fierce.)
speaking of the husband’s birthday…he turned the big ole’ Larry Bird this year. so, while 33 is not quite 35 and well past 30…to most people it’s not a big deal. to the Bird fan, it’s huge. he’s been waiting his whole life.
so…we celebrated the way he wanted to. we ate strawberry shortcake…made with sponge cake, strawberries, and cool whip. (seriously, who under the age of 87 eats sponge cake on purpose? i won’t even eat it on passover) but it’s his favorite…
and
we played Battle of the Sexes drinking game with Jack and Ilana…and i got TOASTED. but, Ilana and i still managed to win, even though i realize i now know nothing about fishing or tools or car mechanics. i aced the sports questions though and i knew that HOPS were the bitter ingredient in beer. hello? i’m from WISCONSIN. of course i know that 😉
and
…we took a Thai cooking class at Mengrai. I’m fairly certain that Chef Sasi (who has been on Iron Chef. boss.) and her husband Allan are the nicest people i have ever met. i wanted to stuff them both in my pocket and take them home with me.
It was GREAT. Allan chatted to us about the ingredients used in Thai cooking (while we chowed down on some appetizers) and then Sasi and their son took us into the kitchen where we made. our. own. food. Golden Curry. Eggplant. Pad Thai.
sadly, i have no pictures of the actual food…no cameras in the kitchen. both for secretive and hygienic reasons..which i guess i can understand (ps. cleanest kitchen i have ever seen. color me impressed.)
and then after the class…a whole bunch of our friends came down for dinner. it was perfect. it was the husband’s ideal birthday.
and i got toasted, again.
