So, the new thing around here is that my 11-year-old baby boy has his own cell phone. He’s still very much in the “why on earth do I even need this thing?” phase. (Boy thing?)

This is exactly the opposite of his older sister, who wrote us lengthy novellas and left us little love notes on our pillows explaining why she absolutely needed to have a cell phone or she basically couldn’t go on living.

I like being able to check in at the end of the day to make sure he fetched Isabella outside of her classroom. I like being able to text him at night before bed. And in the grand scheme of things, Josh is fairly responsible with it — when he remembers to charge it. He’s fairly easy to reach — when he remembers to turn the ringer on. He’s slowly learning how to use instagram and how to play games.

But one thing he absolutely needs no assistance with is BBM.

He took to silly emoticons and all-caps acronyms like a moth to a flame.

Also, you guys, this kid is hilarious.

I really hope he never stops.

But he could stop with the poop emoticons….
