mother’s day, my anniversary and my birthday always fall within the same two-week span. i’ve made the husband promise – from day one – that each one needs to be celebrated seperately.

this year, all i wanted for Mother’s Day was to sleep late. not until 7:30. or even 8. i wanted at least a 10am sleep-in (a term i’ve only recently discovered. i think it’s a canadian thing…a “sleep-in”…but either way, i wanted one). the husband was amazing. he got the kids up, gave them breakfast, got them dressed, took Emily to ballet, went food shopping.

i got to sleep until almost 11. when i got woken up by my good pal Jacques over at the Dance Place…”um, yes, Emily hasn’t been picked up yet!” her class was from 9:30-10:30. has been every week for the last 3 years.

this is why mommy doesn’t have regular sleep-ins. daddy thought her class was from 10:30-11:30.

anyway, it was all good. Emily didn’t really care. she got to watch the older ballerinas dancing…which was a big treat for her.

the rest of my mother’s day was jam-packed. brunch at my sister-in-law’s….with a pedicure lady who made a house call (sweet!). wonderland for a couple hours. friends over for bbq for dinner. and out to c’est what for drinks and some heavy-duty Egyptian Ratscrew (it’s incredibly enjoyable to play when you’ve been drinking…i swear…mmm…niagara’s best blonde)

this was quite possibly the best mother’s day i can remember in a long time. see…i’m easy to please. you let me sleep and give me a pedicure and get me drunk and i’m good to go. i didn’t need flowers or presents (that’s what the anniversary and the birthday are for).

  2. I could not agree more!! And since our birthdays are so close, I have the same – Mother’s Day and my birthday are SEPERATE DAYS thing going on. Sounds like your day was very similar to mine. Exactly the way Mother’s Day should be! 😉

  4. REALLY? “Sleep-in” is a Canadian term? I had no idea. That sounds like a perfect day.

  5. Housecall for pedicures? Decadent! I’m envious of that.

I sleep in most days, but my kids are teenagers so they pretty much get themselves up and out the door… and THEY sleep in on weekends. of course, yesterday was the one freakin’ day of the month I woke up at 5am. Ridiculous!

  11. I did NOT get to sleep in…. Grrrrrr…. But, the hubby made it up to me with great gifts and an afternoon snooze (with many monkey-type interruptions, though…but I take what I can get….). Glad you had a good one, too!!! 🙂

11am!!! OMG! I couldn’t sleep in when I was given the option–how sad is that?

  16. You had me at pedicure…not being a sleep-in kind of gal…I’m more of a nap-later kind of gal. But wonderland? I clicked on the link expecting a sex toy store or the mall…but a theme park? On purpose? On Mother’s Day?

C’est What? sounds like my kind of place…I would totally steal the idea and open one here, but the Boca-ites would utterly butcher the French and not get it anyway.

  17. Ditto. I’m equally easy. To please that is. 🙂
