mother’s day, my anniversary and my birthday always fall within the same two-week span. i’ve made the husband promise – from day one – that each one needs to be celebrated seperately.
this year, all i wanted for Mother’s Day was to sleep late. not until 7:30. or even 8. i wanted at least a 10am sleep-in (a term i’ve only recently discovered. i think it’s a canadian thing…a “sleep-in”…but either way, i wanted one). the husband was amazing. he got the kids up, gave them breakfast, got them dressed, took Emily to ballet, went food shopping.
i got to sleep until almost 11. when i got woken up by my good pal Jacques over at the Dance Place…”um, yes, Emily hasn’t been picked up yet!” her class was from 9:30-10:30. has been every week for the last 3 years.
this is why mommy doesn’t have regular sleep-ins. daddy thought her class was from 10:30-11:30.
anyway, it was all good. Emily didn’t really care. she got to watch the older ballerinas dancing…which was a big treat for her.
the rest of my mother’s day was jam-packed. brunch at my sister-in-law’s….with a pedicure lady who made a house call (sweet!). wonderland for a couple hours. friends over for bbq for dinner. and out to c’est what for drinks and some heavy-duty Egyptian Ratscrew (it’s incredibly enjoyable to play when you’ve been drinking…i swear…mmm…niagara’s best blonde)
this was quite possibly the best mother’s day i can remember in a long time. see…i’m easy to please. you let me sleep and give me a pedicure and get me drunk and i’m good to go. i didn’t need flowers or presents (that’s what the anniversary and the birthday are for).
