first things first…Dorothy had a burial at sea last night. it was a traumatizing experience all around. there were tears, mine included. Emily wasn’t even able to stay in the bathroom during the entire service. and Josh didn’t break down until later when he burst into tears and a certainly overdramatic “i want Dorothy to live!!!!” We lost our first pet this week. and it’s taught me one very important lesson. there’s no way we could handle a dog. or a cat.
today we have a potluck lunch at work. we have these every so often when someone’s getting married or having a baby or leaving. They are always a little bit awkward and uncomfortable. At least this time i’m not on the South Beach diet…
I signed up to bring something dessert-y. and i had full intentions to bake chocolate chip cookies last night. but, i was downtown at the Eaton Centre trying on clothes with Jen and Katie (the style guru) from Urbanmoms. (a little side note…Katie is British. i had no idea. i was so completely thrown off. almost as much as i was when i found out that House was British…mmm…House…) Yessiree. i’m going to be a “Mom Model” at the Urbanmoms gala.
anyway, back to the reason why i didn’t bake. oh, yes, and then i got home, sent my fish to a better place (“all drains lead to the ocean!”), consoled my sad kids, and worked on a rush blanket order for a baby named Raen. has anyone ever heard of this name before? spelled this way? for a boy???
so…i didn’t bake. so, i used some good old fashioned ingenuity and figured i’d stop at Loblaws on my way in to work this morning. only one small little snag. doesn’t open until 8. bah. so, i ended up in the Tim Hortons drive-thru. (which is no surprise, since i find myself there every day anyway) and i bought timbits and cookies.
how’s that for ingenuity? who doesn’t like donuts?
okay…i know i said i wasn’t going to talk about Survivor, since it’s quite possibly the worst.season.ever. of this show…but i do have a question. on the last episode, i believe it was two weeks ago, they showed a clip of what we thought was a sea snake shedding its skin. what, in fact, it looks like is a sea snake throwing up another sea snake. the husband and i watched the scene about 45 times trying to figure out what we were watching. it was like a train wreck. and it wasn’t just us! Becca‘s husband Jason said the same. exact. thing!
so, i’ve now got video. decide for yourself.
American Idol – Top 11. it’s British Invasion night. and Paula is drunk again and her voice cracks like a teenager in heat. Ryan makes a fool out of himself on stage and i just want to put him in my pocket. Sanjaya makes a little girl cry.
the good:
Lakisha – girl can sing, even if tonight was slightly on the boring side. she should take some risks…since she CAN.
Melinda – what’s there to say. amazing.
Jordin – i want her to win this thing. she’s great.
Blake – i’m finding Blake incredibly sexy. and he’s got a good voice too. but mostly he’s sexy.
Chris R. – definitely his best yet. maybe it’s because he wasn’t doing any of that headbopping.
Chris S. – i love this song. from the beautiful girls soundtrack. great choice. loved it!
Hayley – she gets the slutty vote. as the only eye candy in the top 11, and one of the weakest voices, she uses what she’s got. and Simon’s right. it will keep her in the competition. at least another few weeks.
the meh:
Gina – STOP. SHOUTING. GINA.
Phil – was that sweat on his shirt???? it was really hard to concentrate on his singing since i was zeroed in on the shirt…but at least i wasn’t paying attention to the ears this week!
the bad:
Sanjaya – yes, better than he’s been. but, all in all, i thought it was horrific. and the creep factor was way, way high.
Stephanie – she can’t compete with Lakisha and Melinda. she just can’t.
bottom three? Sanjaya, Stephanie, Phil. going home? should be Sanjaya…but i’m guessing Phil
