December 30 07

I’m back from my trip. and i’m 6 pounds up.

crap. crappity crap crap.

i’d like to be able to say it’s my thyroid. i mean, my sister has a thyroid problem….and she noticed it when she was close to 30. not that i’m saying having a thyroid problem would be a good thing, certainly not. but at least it would be an explanation that was a little less humiliating than going to your doctor for a physical and explaining that all the weight gain was due to ‘heifer-like eating’ which is what i would have to do, if i, um, ever went to the doctor for physicals…because i certainly NEVER do that…i call up dr. jack and explain my ailments over the phone…and he takes care of me. i figure it’s a good relationship, because i can return the favor with i-touch tricks…because i am SO loving my new itouch, i seriously want to marry it. she’s so purty.

so…back to my 6 pounds. my skinny jeans don’t fit. my regular jeans don’t fit. i’m living in lulus and pretending my cottage cheese ass still looks hot. i’m also living in my hoodies. now i know why they are so popular these days. they hide flab like no one’s business. i also hide, in my hoodies, behind the babies. and then i look skinny!!!

yikes.

well…here comes New Years Resolution #1.

LOSE WEIGHT IN OH-EIGHT (because, hello!, can we say St. Lucia in exactly TWO months…)

now, everyone in my family swears by south beach and no/low carb. my sister. my brother. my husband. my father. they go on it…and lose 14 pounds in 2 weeks…but, y’all remember what happened to me last year when i went on it…i lost a grand total of – wait for it – 0 pounds. nothing. nada. zilch. zero. the big O.

so…i’m sick of having all these new things and not being able to squash my large-ess into them, so i will be doing my own kind of thing…i’m sure it will have some aspects of the South Beach Diet – low fat, low sugar, low carb…but i love me some carbs. mmm…carbs. and i’m sure i could NEVER give them up. and apparently, even these are bad for you now

but, ya’ll, you’d be VERY impressed with me. i did manage to make it through the entire day today carb-free (and we ate lunch out with our crew and ate dinner at my sister in law’s…where there was many a carb and a BIRTHDAY CAKE.) so i’m feeling pretty good about myself.

but i so wish i hadn’t discovered these:

because, seriously, they are HEAVEN in a box. and hell on the thighs.

  1. Ya know what sucks about being pregnant around the holidays? There is a doctor every four weeks checking how fat you are getting. Not. Good.

I go next week and I’m sure he’s going to have stern words for me. And you know what I’ll say?

Nothing. Cause there will be a chocolate chip cookie stuffed in my mouth.

Comment by AndreAnna on December 30, 2007
  2. Cakesters? Are those even available in Canada? God, I hope not.
I know that I don’t eat like a heifer because they mostly just eat grass and hay and I’ve been known to eat a heck of a lot more than that.
And yeah, my weight is now officially BAD. So come January first, it’s a Farewell to Food for me.

Comment by Rebecca on December 31, 2007
  3. I’ve never heard of lulus, but they have got to be better than momos. Right?? And hello…Oreo Cakesters?!?!?! Where have I been?!

Comment by Kristie on December 31, 2007
  4. Where can I get these Oreo Cakesters of which you speak? No wait – actually I don’t want to know.

Comment by Don Mills Diva on December 31, 2007
  5. Cakesters are my weakness. However, they need to be outlawed. Great looking site. I’ve had a private one for the family for two years and just started toying with a public one. I have a lot of work to do. Happy New Year!

Comment by Tim on December 31, 2007
  6. My secret to actually LOSING weight over the holidays? A daughter, dog and cat puking all week. It’ll take your mind off food, guaranteed.

Comment by Maureen on December 31, 2007
  7. All food falls into one of three categories: protein, fat and carb. Even fruits and veggies are considered carbs. I would be leary of any diet that calls for you to give up an entire food group. Infact there have been studies that show if you reduce your fat in-take too low, then you’re at risk for depression: http://health.yahoo.com/depression-causes/the-risks-of-low-fat-diets/pt–Psychology_Today_articles_pto-20030429-000002.html so guess what? There’s room for cakesters afterall! The bad news, what works best is moderation and exercise.

  8. Ali while i’m sure you could never look like a heifer it does suck when your clothes get too tight…my problem with weight loss is my love for dairy products…and being too tired to move…iHATE HATE HATE how focused everyone is on weight.what does that have to do with the person you are?thats what you look like not WHO you are…

Comment by LAVENDULA on December 31, 2007
  9. Hmmm, can I say I stayed at the same weight during the festive eating season? Yes, I’m gloating! Mu-ha-ha-ha! BUT, I did embrace the lulus yesterday for the sake of good’ole comfy-ness!

Now, about those cakesters. WHERE can you get them? Gimmie, gimmie, gimmie!!!

Comment by Holly on December 31, 2007
  10. I hate December. I’m 6 pounds up, too.

Comment by Stacy on December 31, 2007
  11. Ick. 6 lbs sucks, but maybe a lot of it is water weight. Feel better?
The diet that worked well for carb-loving me was eliminating carbs in the afternoon/evening. So I could even have a sandwich for lunch but after that no carbs. and no mixing protein and carbs.
But, it was still really hard.
Ugggh. Dieting sucks. I’ll be doing that in 3 months.

Comment by Laural on December 31, 2007
  12. Hrm. Never had cakesters. Have to correct that.

    Happy new year!!

Comment by Chris Cactus on December 31, 2007
  13. WHAT?! Rice cakes too? Are you serious?

Comment by Multi-tasking Mommy on December 31, 2007
  14. LOL .. I don’t think I ever jumped on the scale after Christmas .. but I just did when I read your post .. and lol .. I gained 7 lbs! Ughhh..
I guess, lower fat intact (or no fat ..) and all in moderation so smaller portion sizes, and don’t you have an elliptical in your bedroom? that would be a good machine to get re-acquainted too 🙂

Comment by Sarah on December 31, 2007
  15. You just discovered my “addiction” those things are awesome….I knew I was in trouble when I bought my first box a few months ago, I love them!

  16. It has been lulus and hoodies for me too…detox starts January 7th…I can’t afford a new, more comfortable wardrobe.

Comment by Jen on December 31, 2007
  17. Oh, my word. Those Cakesters are heaven. The chocolate filled ones, in particular, are DANGEROUS.

    (Happy New Year, Ali!)

Comment by metalia on January 1, 2008
  18. Happy New Year Ali! Sounds like you had a pretty great holiday season. I too came home with 5 or 6 extra pounds. Ick. Time to throw on my shoes and go for a run. And throw out the rest of the goodies laying around.

Comment by Kristen on January 1, 2008
  19. mmm….i’ve gotta lose weight too. Florida. March. I wish you hadn’t shown me the cakesters….I’d better not have to walk past those in the store….lol!

    Happy Carb-free New Year!

Comment by Badness Jones on January 1, 2008
  20. I’ll be starting my detox Jan 5, we’re having a couples game night on Friday and there will definitely be shooters involved.
I gifted hubby with a really cool hoodie and have been wearing it to hide the muffin top. Honestly skinny jeans plus the extra holiday pounds?!? I am sporting a definite muffin top.
I will be staying away from the Cakesters-thanks for the warning!
Happy New Year from Cowtown :o)

Comment by Lesley on January 1, 2008
  21. LOL at wearing the lulus- I do that when I have been bad as well

I had cheese cake today but am just getting ready to hit the treadmill for 1 hr- that’s the best I can do!

    Happy New Year

    Comment by B on January 1, 2008
  22. Babe you are totally hot.
Every once in a while I ponder joining jenny craig or weight watchers when really all I need to do is stop eating stuff like those oreos.

You know what my in-laws got us for Christmas? A scale. Is that a hint or what.

Comment by lisa b on January 2, 2008
  23. OMG! Even rice cakes? Is nothing safe anymore?
There ought to be a law for placing images of scrumptious Cakesters next to styrofoam 😉

Happy New Year….I’m hoping to squeeze by way back into skinny pants too in oh-eight!

Comment by Sandy (Momisodes) on January 2, 2008
  24. That’s OK, the IUD has made me gain weight, but I am afraid to check and see how much.

Comment by Aimee Greeblemonkey on January 2, 2008
  25. You see, thats why I just stay away from the scale completely!

Comment by Miss on January 2, 2008
  26. I saw those cakesters on my last grocery shopping trip and was so tempted to buy them. Yummmmm!

Comment by Katie on January 2, 2008
  27. oh no…step away from the cakesters!! (as I wipe away the drool!) Man, they sure do look good!!!!

Comment by workout mommy on January 2, 2008
  28. Umm… how the hell are you so hot and skinny after having so many children?!?!?! And you even eat CAKESTERS!?!? Shame on you.

Comment by Myshka on January 3, 2008
  29. Just weighed myself this morning. Yes, I am probably the only person on earth who can GAIN weight on the psych ward. Well, they had pudding for dessert at lunch AND dinner. I really forgot how wonderful pudding is.

Anyway, as for your resolution, from the picture you are still gorj! My solution when I had kids your kids’ ages was to hold a kid whenever someone took a camera out. My son was such a HUGE baby that holding him made me look TEENY!!! LOL…ha, only kidding.

Anyway, my resolution (starting this Monday) is to lose 20 pounds in 20 weeks.

Comment by Di on January 5, 2008
  30. Ok. Cakesters? Rock. But, I know something even BETTER than Cakesters. Whoopie Pies. I know, funny name. They are like cakesters but much better. And homemade. And really bad for you. I think i ate about 2 dozen this Christmas. No doubt. Good luck with the diet!
