April 6 09

well, it’s safe to say that this so-called Spring and I are officially in a fight. I guess it’s a good thing that I spent too much time cooking for this impending unleavened bready Jewish holiday to weatherize my closets because there is snow. LOTS OF SNOW. think: snow storm. think: winter boots. think: expected 6 inches. i think a snowstorm should automatically give me a get out of jail free card. i mean, do you even know what passover commemorates? oh yes, the epic saga of Moses leading the Jews to freedom from slavery through the desert. If this had happened in Toronto, that old Charlton Heston joint would have been a VERY different movie…

speaking of movies, I partook in a much needed girls’ night out on Saturday night (We also partook in unlimited free refills and were able to stretch one large popcorn across five people. hey, if you are going to charge me $8 for a diet coke, i’m going to refill my popcorn 4 times. it’s that simple) to see I Love You, Man. and, well, i loved it, man. As a lifelong member of the Freaks and Geeks fan club, i shouldn’t have to tell you how much i love anything Judd Apatow. and, seriously, any movie that quotes my beloved Andre the Giant’s classic princess bride action… “anybody want a peanut?” ACES. my only beef?

I LOVE YOU MAN

i’m wondering if there was some sort of water softener problem going on here? because the hair? the hair! she was distracting.

also distracting? the Wolverine preview, because seriously, looks amazing.

and, confession: HUGH JACKMAN? I FINALLY SEE THE APPEAL. i have always thought he was a little too, erm, manly for me. In my mind he was wolverine, even when he wasn’t actually playing wolverine, yanno? but, i don’t know, maybe it was the Oscars (when i wanted to lock him right up in my pocket, he was my bar of chocolate…). the one thing i DO know, however, is that it’s not because of the recession. oh yes, did you read about that study…the one that say that hard times make women want hairy men? i swear to god, i am not making this shit up.

one last thing i wanted to tell you, because since i first posted, way back in February, about Miss Roxee being sick, and through all my facebook statuses and tweets, you all have been so supportive. Sadly, Roxee lost her battle with lymphoma this week. She was such a huge part of our lives, our children’s lives. She was the first dog we’ve ever loved, and she taught us all how to eat an apple like a lady.

roxee

we will miss you, roxee girl.

  1. omg …so sad .. shedding tears here at work – for having been through the same disease with our beautiful dog – it is quick and soooo devastating…RIP Roxy .. maybe your running with my Kia now in Heaven!
    You mom must be devastated..

  2. So sorry about Roxee:( Dogs/pets become a huge part of the family, don’t they? Our Bichon is 18 years old and is still kicking it old-school, with the help of some arthritis meds. As hard as this is, Roxee is no longer suffering and she was obviously very much loved.

  3. My heart breaks for the loss of your Rox. These things completely crush me.

(so forgive me for saying that when I went to go see I Love You, Man over the weekend, it was all my husband could do to keep me in my seat and not up at the screen licking Paul Rudd)

  4. Oh nos! You lost your Golden Retriever? I’m so sorry.

We have one too. He’s going to be 12 this summer. I dont even want to think about my husband and son when this dog goes.

And I also never understood Hugh Jackman until I saw Australia. I am completely a convert now. He was so yummy in that movie.

  5. That’s so sad! Some animals are too much like people not to fall in love with them, and it’s always sounded like Roxee was one of them.

As for the movie… just saw I Love You, Man this weekend and OMGod it was hilarious. Except the projectile vomit scene made me – not a gagger – gag.

  8. We saw I Love You, Man last week and Paul Rudd was a bit too weinie-ish in it for me. I never thought I would say I find him unattractive, but halfway through the movie I was thinking “Where’s funny, cute Paul Rudd?”

    I’m so sorry about Rox.

  9. Losing a dog you love is awful. I’m sorry.

And for all of the Paul Rudd lovers out there? You can have him! I LOVE Jason Segal – and it’s got to be a deep, consuming love to still be there after Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

And yes, the SNOW! I’m in Ontario too and this is CRAZY!

I cannot cannot cannot wait to see Wolverine! And the ladies and I are going to see I Love You, Man next week, so you now have me stoked for that as well!

  14. Roxee will definitely be missed. Even though I didn’t know her, I’m sad hearing she lost her battle.

Looks like the snow turned to rain. Greeeeaaat. The snow was prettier….

You MUST see Adventureland. You will LOVE if. I mean CAPITAL L.O.V.E. And apparently I must see I Love You, Man…. (You coulda put that on your hot new Review site, non?)

  25. 1) Snow sucks. We’re visiting Cincinnati from Atlanta and it’s dribbling snow. Despite growing up in Michigan, it still hurts.
    2) Something about the previews of I Love You, Man made me dislike it, but maybe I’ll check it out. Anything that quotes Princess Bride can’t be all that bad.
    3) Sorry to hear about your puppy. Death hurts, no matter who it takes.

  26. You know, we have a stuffed dog called “Rockee” around here. So sad 🙁 Mr. A says “She looks like a good old lady who had a great life.” And then, I presume, he went to cry in his closet.

  27. I’m so sorry about Roxee. It’s crazy how attached we get, isn’t it?

And I can’t wait to see I Love You, Man. Possibly because I could lick Paul Rudd’s neck if ever I were to meet him. Just saying.

  28. I still don’t see the Jackman appeal, but I’m waiting on Wolverine to change my mind.

I just wrote about I Love You Man, too! I, however, totally forgot about the Princess Bride quoting. Perhaps that would have upped my review a bit.:)

(Once again, so sorry about Roxee.)

  29. Ali, just read your article about the lack of Pesach ketchup. Luckily for me I did buy a while ago so I have a bottle that will now have to be rationed carefully. I wanted to suggest that you use a can of jellied cranberry sauce mixed with a packet of onion soup for your roast. It is delicious and very easy. Goold luck.

To switch gears with not so much as a segue, I can’t WAIT to see I Love You, Man. Esp. now that I know about the Princess Bride quoting.

I’m still not quite on the Hugh Jackman bandwagon, still see him as the hairy Wolverine. Maybe it’s because I didn’t get to watch the Oscars?
