In the car, singing along to whatever song is playing on Radio Disney.

Josh to Emily: You are being so Hermione Granger right now.

The funny thing is, he meant it as an insult.

The funnier thing is, she took it as a compliment.

And that right there is the essence of Emily Martell and Joshua Martell.

The things she likes, he doesn’t. The things he likes, she doesn’t.

She likes things to be perfect. (I can’t imagine where she gets this from. Her mom.). She is organized and studious and spends an awful lot of time in front of her mirror and/or at the mall. She will re-write her notes from class if they aren’t written neatly enough. She loves different-colored pens because they bring order to her life.

He likes to be laid-back and carefree. (I can’t imagine where he gets this from. His dad.) He is unorganized and sloppy and kind of a mess. He loves to spend a lot of time in front of a book and/or video game screen. He wears whatever superhero t-shirt is at the top of his drawer with mismatched shorts. He likes to tell jokes and be silly and talk about baseball and play board games.

She can’t believe that he can’t get the lyrics right to the song.

He can’t believe that anyone cares at all about getting the lyrics wrong.

Josh to Emily: I’m just going to sing it however I want to sing it and I don’t care what you think.

Emily: Slow clap.

  2. Sounds exactly like my daughter and son who are complete opposites. But, you know what, they are best friends. In fact, they are at the college football game today. They enjoy hanging out together even though sometimes people mistake them for a couple.
