April 27 12

Honestly with the snow.

Snow. On April 27th. The funny thing is that this really should not surprise a single person who lives in the GTA. It’s always cold in April. Always. It’s around this time every year where complaints start coming in on Twitter to the tune of “OMG it’s soooo hot. Need air conditioning” and photos start popping up on Facebook and on Instagram of my friends—the smart ones who live in warmer climates—wearing shorts and tanks and, gasp, flip flops. And here I am, in sweaters and boots and coats and jeans. And my lovely summer dresses just hang in the closet, taunting me with their lovely lightweight fabrics and spring colors.

But, even though it’s not surprising, it still makes me want to punch this weather in the neck. Or at least stab is a little bit.

So, today, on this gloomy, snowy Friday—when I plan to stay inside where it’s warm and cuddle up to my DVR with last night’s Grey’s Anatomy and a steaming hot mug of coffee the size of my entire head—we are going to focus on THE GOOD. The things that are making me happy right this very minute:

Community does Law & Order. Impeccably.

Breakfast for dinner. Or lunch. Or breakfast.

This song. On repeat. There are no words for how much I love Schuyler Fisk…and not just because she was Kristy Thomas in the Babysitters Club Movie. I swear.

Good Mary Poppins auditions. (Fingers and toes crossed for Tuesday, when we find out if we will be buying carpet bags and umbrellas and learning to speak with an English accent.)

Girl Scout cookies.

Watching Bones from the beginning, for the very first time. How, seriously, have I never watched this before? (Also, my lust for Booth had forced me to go back and give Buffy the Vampire Slayer another shot, because obviously. And now I am almost done with season 3. And my friends seem satisfied.)

The Pacific version of 30 Rock’s Live Show—three words: ZU BISOU BISOU.

Friday night Shabbat dinners.

Smelling new tea flavors.

The 80-something+ comments on my Facebook stream yesterday re: 50 Shades of Grey. (Rest assured, there is a review in the works, complete with commentary about lip biting and Bella Swan.)

Roger Sterling takes an acid adventure and his vodka bottle sings. (Also, wait…is that Angela Chase’s mother?)

Beautiful Girls, the movie. (And the soundtrack.)

Loving Cher, without shame.

Crying during commercials, without shame.

Movie theater popcorn. For dinner.

The idea of living on a farm. Or just, you know, going off the grid and moving to some small town somewhere where we can buy a huge plot of land and a huge (affordable) house with a huge wraparound porch where I can sit and work remotely. Ah…dreams. Also, I need to get the heck off of realtor.com.

What do you LOVE right now?

  1. Please tell me I’m not the only one who clicked on the Lead Me Home picture expecting it to play.

  4. Snow would have killed me, would have just made me so upset. BUT I am loving the sun we are finally getting in Virginia and the fact that I am going to check out apartments tomorrow in DC! Have a great weekend.

  5. I love this! Time to sit down and think about my own happy list except we’ll need to arm wrestle for Booth. You’ll probably win. I have Gumby arms.

    ali replied on

Obviously you have never seen me in real life. I’m basically a mini person.

  6. Maxwell’s version of “Ths Women’s Work”without shame even though Kate Bush will always be the best. It just gets me in the gut. Maybe it’s remembering how much I loved the routine on SYTYCD without shame. Seriously everyone needs to YouTube it!

  7. I love that it’s Friday! And I have absolutely no plans this weekend! So I can sleep and lounge and watch TV because it’s so fucking cold!

Yes, it’s always this cold in April. But it was warmer in March here, and that’s just wrong.

  8. About a 1-1/2 years ago I watched all the seasons of Bones three times in a row, in like 9 weeks. I was obsessed! I don’t think I like the Angel version of David Boreanaz, though.

But yes, Community is always brillant. :)

I actually don’t really love the entire Buffy series. I tried desperately to get through the first season and struggled and then gave up.but once I started watching Bones, I figured I’d give it a try. I DO like Angel…just not sure how I feel about the show. and about people saying that it’s “THE BEST SHOW ON TV EVER.”

  10. And! Movie theatre popcorn was on my list on my post, too!

SIGH. We really need to live in the same place. FOR REAL.

  11. I just looked for that song on iTunes but it couldn’t be found. :(

I love that I’m going on vacation on Sunday. An entire week away. Love it. Can’t wait.

I love the six unread books sitting waiting for me on my Kindle. Also the unwatched Grey’s waiting for me on my DVR.

I love that I felt my bath mat under my right foot for the first time in a month. Progress!

It was almost impossible to find…

I heard it at the end of a Hart of Dixie episode and desperately tried to find it. FINALLY, I discovered it was SChuyler Fisk and Tim Myers. Try searching under her name on itunes?

  12. Community was freaking amazeballs! I laughed through the whole thing and had to rewind it a few times to miss what they said while I was laughing.
Don’t get me started on my lust for Booth! Hot dayum he is hotness. I’ve tried to watch a few Buffy episodes but it’s definitely not the same.
I know a perfect middle-of-nowhere spot here in CO. We could be neighbors!

  13. well I love Canada. You can buy Aspirin/Tylenol with caffeine and codeine over the counter! It handles my migraines better than anything else in the world. But I couldn’t stand the cold. I just pray the next wedding or Bar/Bat Mitzvah in Canada is not in the winter.

I love Shabbat. Were not so big on the Friday night dinners, as much as I try I just don’t always get home in time for work and my boy are young so I’m just not hungry when they eat. But I love Shabbat in general. Spending time with Shul with a wonderful community, then Shabbat lunch at a friend. Ending with Scotch and learning, Gemara

Spending time with my kids, especially in our garden

    Writing my children’s poems/stories.

  14. I know what you mean about Bones–my husband and I watch religiously. However, we’ve gotten a little annoyed with how Dr. Brennan’s character seems to have gotten more and more over the top with the “scientist completely lacking in social skills” stereotype. It’s not as funny as it used to be. Are you watching Castle? This show has a great cast of fun supporting characters and great chemistry between the female cop and the male writer.

    ali replied on

We are only in season 2 :)

    Corey Feldman replied on

Castle is great. One of my favorites.

  16. Make the wish of living in the country true. I have ten acres on conservation land. I bought it in winter 08/09. The myriad of places and things my 6yr old son can explore is phenomenal. And I can sit by my ponds and fish, or lay in a hammock with complete quiet and read a book. It truly is the best move I ever made. Stay on realtor.ca otherwise you may miss out on that slice of heaven.
