March 2 09

last night, circa, 6:30pm. the last of my come-and-take-ali’s-books-away visitors had gone. the husband had gone. i had gotten out of the shower and was all, hrm, where’s Emily? i searched the entire house. i mean, i even searched the furnace room in the basement. and then i panicked. and then i may have cried. and i may have said the f word. the husband laughs when i call him “um, yeah, she went to my sister’s for dinner. hahaha” oh yeah. that’s really funny.

what is funny, however, is the almost-fully grown-in adult tooth that is hiding underneath her front tooth.

sharkgirl

she is officially dubbed SHARKGIRL.

what is also funny is the $14 i the husband found in my peacoat for 11 years ago. the one i haven’t worn since the first year we were married. the one i, of course, still had hanging in a closet in my basement.

ali the packrat is not even a bit surprised that we were able to fill more than half of the industrial-sized garbage bin that is currently taking up way too much space on my driveway. and the nannies…ohmigoodgod, the nannies! they have asked if they can go CRAWLING through the bin for hidden treasure. i swear if no photo evidence comes of this hilarity, i will shed tears. big giant bitch-titted bob from Fight Club tears. can you imagine a dozen nannies jumping in and out of this thing?

dsc_0707

this weekend also marked the purge of ali’s books. this is the table after about HALF of the books had already gone. and we aren’t even going to talk about the hundreds of books that i KEPT and couldn’t part with…

bookshalfgone

and then, of course, this weekend marked Shavegate 2009. we took Indiana to petsmart to get a standard shi tzu three inch cut. you know, to make him look like this:

indy

but instead of 3 INCH, they, for some reason, heard #3 BLADE. which is 1/2 an inch. GAH! cue the weeping. my puppy is BALD.

shaved

but, alas, he is still superIndy to me…

superindy

just like his best friend and big sister, SuperBella

superbella

now, i’m off to spend my $14 on something really important. like coffee. i need it.

  3. OMG I was going to ask you if you took the puppy to PetSmart. They are the worst. They shaved our Bichon so bald his pink skin was showing everywhere and they shaved off his tail and get him a rat tail. The dog was so traumatized that he wouldn’t leave under the bed except to eat (not even for walks) for 10 days. We actually caleld PetSmart back after day 2 because we weren’t even 100% sure we brought our own dog home.

  4. Indy looks Gorj!
My dog spent saturday overnight at the spa too, and came back super fresh shampoo smelling and nicely clipped nails!

  5. 1) Indy is still super cute.
    2) A person should NEVER be forced to part with their books. That being said, when my husband and I moved cross country I was coerced into giving up probably 50 books. My heart cries for you.

  6. Do you think the nannies would object to oiling up before going into the dumpster as a group?

  12. hahahaha. Indy looks less superman and more evil one-eyed shi tzu trying to take over the world in that last pic. Too cute.

  13. I love Superindy and his trendy cut! I also love you and your books and hope you saved some literary love for moi, ha =)

  14. I love how Indy is totally posing in that photo! He’s all “look at me, mom! I’m SMOKIN’!”

Did you recycle your books or give them away? I’ve debated opening an Amazon store to sell them for 99 cents a piece. But then I remember I’m lazy and would have to mail them out.

  15. I had to get rid of some of my books for moving – and I did so without prompting! The husband was very impressed, to say the least.

I am currently mulling over a job in Buffalo because, ya know, $18 an hour for full-time kicks booty compared to that being TWICE WHAT I GET PAID NOW HOURLY.

But anyway, dog is still cute – looks like he’s winking in one picture.

And I used to pull jackets out of the closet at my grandparents’ house to wear (most were mine) – and I once found a five in one and a 20 in another!!

  16. Look on the bright side–less dog hair around your house to vacuum up!

  17. ahh Indy is so cute! Even with the cut.

  18. I know it was an accident, but Indy still looks really cute – especiall as Super Indy. My dog was accidentally shaved last time we went to the groomer (after growing his hair in for a YEAR because of another shaving incident) and I cried so hard, they gave me the grooming for free. 🙂

  22. Um, I found a dime at work today. Score!

Also, forgive me, but I may have started feeling a little tingly in my tummy (or wherever) when I saw all those books you’re trying to get rid of. I’d have been all over them. We’re never moving. They’d have a loving home.

  26. oh dear G-d!

A friend took her mini schnauzer to PetSmart for grooming, once.

He came back looking like a chemo patient. He had no ear tips, he had no fluff on his legs or paws. His tail was less than a rat tail. He had NO eyebrows, which is what gives the little schnauzers a lot of their personality.

Took about 6 months to get him back to looking like a schnauzer, rather than a Chinese crested hairless. 🙁

Get him a coat and some booties if it is really cold and NEVER, ever take him back there again.

    oy!

I know his fur is short now, but he will be a LOT easier to take care of. Buy him some sweaters or something! heh.

Isn’t finding money in unexpected places also awesome, awesome? Congrats on the $14. Envy. 🙂

Wow, yah, books. I have a hard time parting with them. And when I do, they have to go to a good home. Seriously. I’m weird that way.

  32. I LOVE finding money in old clothes! In fact, I’m such a dork that I have been known to leave a five dollar bill in the pocket of a pair of shorts, just so I’ll find it the following summer.

And free money rocks. I once found a roach clip in a jacket I bought at a second hand store but I guess your find trumps mine.
