my parents’ Golden, Roxee, is super sick. You all remember Roxee, right? The famous apple-eating puppy video?

We found out recently that Miss Roxee has lymphoma. She goes in today for a bone marrow test and her first treatment.

Needless to say, our family is very sad right now.

last night, my sister in law Rachel had her third baby girl, Audrey Corin.

Needless to say, our family is also very happy right now.

and here i am, stuck here in rainy Toronto (i’m sure glad i took the time to blow dry and iron this morning only to go out and get all wet and frizzed up. note to self: look out your window in the morning) and not in Atlanta, squeezing a golden retriever, and not in Nashville, squeezing a brand-new baby. (so, the bad: RAIN. the good: NO SNOW)

no, instead. i’m here. dealing with DRAMA. i hate dealing with the drama. it makes me cocoa for cookoo poofs (i blame Tracey Jordan) (so, the bad: DRAMA and having to take down a post. the good: 30 Rock is the funniest show to ever be)(bonus good: my guest post at mamapop! go read it! go read it!)

instead, i’m here. dealing with the dreaded measure at my new gym. oh, how i hate that day. there’s little more mortifying than having some strange SUPER built woman (think: Jillian Michaels) make you spread your legs and come at you with a tape measure and then try to sell you $500 worth of personal training sessions. (so, the bad: measurement mortification. the good: Ali makes the gym her bitch is working. i went FOUR times last week and FOUR times this week)(bonus good: i got SHOES AND A SPORTS BRA)

  1. You’re right. 30 Rock IS the funniest show ever. That’s why I’m so incredibly pissed that they haven’t had new episodes in TWO WEEKS!! It’s like I’m going through withdrawl or something.

I know! But even reruns of it are better than most new episodes of other shows! ~Ali

  2. At least you can rest assured that Jillian is the ONLY built woman in that gym. All the other trainers are…not. At all. I find it weird.

  3. I’m late on the sports bra bandwagon, but I bought one last week that I’m ready to marry I love it so much. It’s a beautiful turquoise, it works like a charm (completed a 12K run without a bounce) and it’s called…(are you ready for this??)…the Ta Ta Tamer, by Lululemon. It had me at ta ta,

  7. So sad to hear about Roxee. My dog passed away from Lymphoma 3 years ago – she was stage 3 when the vet caught in and she died 6 months later with only prednizone to treat it (she hated vets, doing chemo was not an option…). I will say a prayer for sweet Roxee and her humans parent though – it’s tough really tough…

but congrats with the baby neice, so cute!

Wierd huh, how the really good and the really bad come together?

I found out I was pregnant (with my only child) a couple days after my horse crashed a jump and died (suspected aneurism..) I knoooooowwww. how crazy…

  8. Poor Roxee – that sucks.
Hopefully they can treat it early.
    Congrats on your new neice!
    Umm…took down a post?

30 Rock is the best show

And the rain does suck. It’s going to suck even more when the temperature drops to -15 tomorrow.

  11. Awww, hugs all around for Roxee and your folks. I know the thought of losing a pet can be hard.

Congrats on Aunty, round 12! She is sooo precious!

If it makes you feel any better, its dreary and rainy here in Atlanta, and we may get snow flurries (hah! I know) this weekend.

Keep rocking it with the gym – I just bought a whole new lot of sports bras so I don’t have doing laundry as an excuse not to go. We can keep each other motivated when you get here!

  12. Roxee is a gorgeous dog. Sorry that your family is having to go through this.

But then speaking of gorgeous! What a beautiful new mother and daughter! (I’ve wanted my very own Audrey since I was a child and named every doll I got Audrey. My youngest son doesn’t seem to like it much when I call him that…)

  15. So sorry.

    Many congrats.

You’ll be in Atlanta soon enough. You are so lucky to have that opportunity. I often miss my family terribly and wonder what life would be like if closer to them.

    Hugs, Ali.

Also: Way to make that gym your bitch. I’m impressed. The only thing I’ve made my bitch this week is a throw pillow and a pint of ice cream.

I’m so sorry about Roxee — I hope they’ve caught it early enough for treatment to be effective.

Welcome to the outside world, Audrey! And congrats to the whole family. 🙂

(Also, I hate you a little bit for getting that song stuck in my head.)

  30. That’s so sad about the doggy. Unfortunately, about 80% of golden retrievers die from cancer, most from lymphoma, because of inbreeding. If you’re close to a university vet hospital, see if the dog can get into a clinical trial. We tried that with Duncan in 2002-2003, and while it didn’t prolong his life ($8k later the cancer came back with a vengeance) the knowledge gained will help future dogs and people (dogs and people are very biologically similar when it comes to cancer).

    best wishes
