oh, Officer McBride, have i got a bone to pick with you, miss. yes, yes, i get that you are trying to keep speeding down in our neighborhood. i get that. trust me, i do. i curse out the crazy kids who drive at 80mph down our residential street because i am a) old and b) concerned for the safety of my children. but, i gotta tell you. you need something better to do at 8:30am on a sunday morning.

because i was out on a mission. coffee for the husband and me. it was much, much needed after the complete and total barf-o-rama weekend. why yes, little miss isabella decided to saunter into our bedroom at 6:15 in the am on saturday morning, tell us that she was going to throw up, haul her little tushy to the bathroom, and make good on her promise. lather, rinse, repeat. all day.

and we all know how i. feel. about. barf.

so, i was out. getting the reinforcements we needed. and then, along with the only other 9 cars on the road, pulled over.

for going 52 in a 40 zone. that’s kilometers, people. which means that i was speeding. SEVEN miles over the limit. on a deserted street. before 9am on a sunday.

hi, i’m speed racer. a total menace to society.

Officer McBride was all too kind and knocked it down to only 10km over.

TOO KIND. and i actually told her so. in a slightly sarcastic tone. and as a had a vision of me calling my husband from jail in my sweats and unbrushed hair telling him that his coffee was gonna be REAL cold because i got arrested for snarking an officer….i quickly pulled away and raced – as fast as my car at 4km an hour could go – home.

  8. no doubt in my mind I would fight that in court. I don’t think they can ticket you unless you’re going more than 10 mph over here. atleast I hope they can’t.

  14. This reminds me of the summer when I was pulled over by OFFICER PIGEON-FACED HALL (if only I had his full real name, I would totally ruin his Internet reputation) for going 70 in a 70, but instead citing me for 94!!! That’s reckless driving, and after a four-hour round trip to court, the issue still hasn’t been resolved. I hate cops on power trips.

  23. When my wife got pulled over for creeping a stop sign she asked the officer: “So, are you pulling over all of the honor’s students leaving their reception tonight?”

That cop showed up in court when she fought her ticket. He brought diagrams and stuff.

She said something similar once when customs Canada pulled us over in Windsor for an inspection. She’s going to jail for sure someday.

  26. that really sucks! i said to aaron yesterday that 10 km must be like 7 miles over the speed limit. is there nothing more important for the police to do than hand out speeding tickets at 8 am?

Comment by adrienne on December 1, 2008
  27. I just spent the last ten minutes trying to figure out Kilometers vs. miles and then decided I am too dumb to figure it out.

I haven’t had the problem here, but in LA, the last day of the month is when they try and give out as many tickets as possible, which is why it’s common to see 6 people pulled over on one freaking block. I once got on for not yielding to a pedestrian. The pedestrian who finally made it too the intersection, about the time the cop had fully written out my ticket.
