husband of the year award will likely go to mine, for he not only brought me chicken wings for dinner (mmm…chicken wings…), he also willingly went to see a 10pm showing of Twilight with me last night. Willingly. no force. no bribery. nothing. he was willing to go to the mall theater and watch this tweeny movie with me and 87 of my closest pre-teens and the one orthodox jewish dude who was there ALONE.

i came to terms with this yesterday. please don’t judge me for seeing it. or for racing out to see it before it was actually released. i don’t judge you.

much.

I have to admit, going in i was super skeptical about Robert Pattinson playing Edward. I was hoping for someone more, um, Nate Archibald-like. i even wrote about it here. and here.

BUT

he totally won me over. he was great.

and totally HOT. and totally not unlike Hayden Christensen, who now that i think about it…would have also made an excellent Edward.

the movie itself was pretty much exactly what i expected. a lot of angst. a lot of will-they-or-won’t they. a lot of smoldering glances. a lot of Bella being klutzy. a lot of pretty cheesy dialogue. pretty sub-par make-up jobs, especially on Peter Facinelli’s Dr. Cullen.

only i didn’t have to read any “she murmured” every three paragraphs. and i didn’t have to read Bella’s long and drawn out speeches about how stunning! and painstakingly beautiful! and gorgeous! Edward is.

(but please don’t get me started on the baseball scene. when you see it, you will have to explain to me what the hell was up with the hats. THE HATS?!?? my good god)

(or Jacob’s hair. PUKE)

so, needless to say, tweenAli LOVED it.

tweenAli also enjoyed getting free movie passes on the way out due to complications during the movie. they are doing construction in the mall and halfway through the baseball scene an alarm started going off. insert tween girl pandemonium here. and for about 5 minutes the surround sound disappeared.

and tweenAli also enjoyed watched a teen girl getting busted for having recorded the movie. AWESOME. me hearties, i’ve never seen that before. AAAAAAARRRRR!

so, all in all. no complaints. i’m just really thankful i didn’t have to see a midnight show, like someone else i know. because as it was, i needed a giant big-gulp sized diet coke to make it through the 10:00pm showing. but i’m so glad i did….and like a giggle little tweenybopper, i will be looking forward to the next three movies. because i really want them to just do it already.

*this title is totally unrelated to my post. but i love me some 30Rock. and i love me some Steve Martin. so, obviously, last night’s episode…made my entire month. well, except that whole election day thing. that was a pretty good month-maker too. 😉

  1. I was so torn about seeing the movie, because we all know how movies don’t often do a book justice. But now, I just might have to go. My inner tween will be squeeing for sure! And Hayden Christensen as Edward? Oh yeah, baby.

  2. Do I live under a rock? I had only heard about the whole Twilight book series the other month. I really need to get out of the house!

    LOVE free passes. yay.

  9. That is not a good photo of Hayden Christensen. He looks greasy.

When the first trailer came out, I was not convinced that Pattison was Edward. But the more I see the commercials and the more I read, the more I think he is PERFECT. Rawr!

I’m seeing it on Sunday and can’t wait!

  11. On the subject of the girl getting busted for filimg the movie – I hear that Canada runs rampant with that. Not only that little tidbit, but they’re really starting t crack down on that stuff up North (for me, North for you would be, like, Sudbury or something).

I am also still pretty skeptical about casting; Robert Pattinson (I jsut CANNOT call him Rob Pat, ew), he has a chance of making me happy – but visually, NOT how one imagines Edward, i do not think. I would have been much happier with someone else as Bella though, and Charlie:? Seriously? Too hot for me in the trailer.

  14. I might be the only person in the entire interwebs who hasn’t read the book. I think it’s super nice of your husband to go and not complain. If I wanted to go and thought taking my husband was a good move, I’d have to then see two horror flicks and one kill em type movie in a row.

  16. SO EXCITED to watch 30 Rock now! I LOVE Steve Martin!

Also, I VERY BRIEFLY considered going to the movie with Kerri Anne, then I remembered that I keep the hours of an 80 year old and I’d just be paying $10 to sleep in an uncomfortable chair.

  17. People started lining up here at 2pm for the midnight showing of Twilight. 2PM! If I stood in line for 10 hours I would have hated the movie no matter what. So I’m dragging jparks to it on Sunday morning.

  18. “only i didn’t have to read any “she murmured” every three paragraphs.”

YES, I said the same! thing. NO MURMURING, amen.

And I totally love how you puked over Jacob’s hair and I was all “Um, it’s sort of PRETTY.” Cracking me up right now.

Also: the picture of the Cullen family in your post solidifies the fact that Rosalie was poorly cast. In my opinion. She’s supposed to be, um…hotter.

  21. I want to go see it, but I haven’t read the books. I hate seeing a movie before reaading the book so I might have to go buy it. Also, I noticed a lot of people saying that Edward is cute, but it is wierd because they are older and well the guy playing Edward is 22. I am 21 so I could totally like him and marry him and it would be awesome. : )

  27. I’m dying to go see this even though I have not read the book. I did see them being interviewed on the today show. Aside from how amazingly strange the guys hair was, I was struck by how deeply stooooooopid he seemed to be. Which took away from the hotness buildup I was experiencing. So now, he’s been categorized as hot enough to lust after but would prefer him not to speak should we ever meet and fall in love. 🙂

Your husband wins for taking you to see that, mine won’t go near it!
