so…i’m trying to make the switch from Tim Horton’s coffee in the morning to McDonald’s. About a year or so ago, i made the switch from Starbucks to Tim’s, mostly to save money. i was spending upwards of $4 every morning for a latte, because Starbucks actual coffee totally blows. and then i read somewhere that you could save $2,500 a year by cutting down on Starbucks and i was all “awesome! think about how many pairs of shoes i can buy for that much?” (i’m not sure that number really IS true. because 365 days in a year x 4 dollars a day doesn’t equal that much. but i read it on the internet. and everything on the internet is true. don’t you know? yes, even the Richard Gere hamster story. and even the pop rocks and coke story, my personal favorite)

so, anyway, back to my switch at hand. Tim’s to McDonald’s. Since i AM a quality correspondent now, i figured it was a good idea, almost like an undercover operation. and i love those. i’m all sneaky. but also…hello? McDonald’s Monopoly game. (my son and i both love the chance to win things! roll up the rim to win is my favorite time of the year! it’s better than Christmas. well, almost better)

bonus!

(although i’ve only won Barq’s root beers and i have about 18 St. James Places so far)

so..here’s my problem. McD’s is out of the way in the morning. as in, it probably takes me an extra 12 minutes in the morning, and anyone who has kids and likes to sleep and likes to shower and likes to get to work on time KNOWS that 12 minutes? it’s like a lifetime!

also? Tim Horton’s is so good at getting my coffee right. large. one milk. one sweetener. perfect every time. yesterday, McDonald’s used cream instead of milk. and today, they forgot the sweetener altogether.

hmph.

AND by golly, my cup is LEAKING all over my desk.

ACES.

ho hum…oh yes, i DID actually have something of, you know, substance to write about today…

that’s me and Kristin. no, i’m not REALLY a midget. but she’s tall, y’all. like, Dooce tall. and i know this because she and Heather had a lengthy discussion about pants. (ps. i’m even wearing HEELS in this picture. like, 2-inchers) but, this is not the point of my story either. ho hum. no coffee makes Ali lose focus. big time.

anyway, when i found out i was going to Chicago i emailed her and her and was all ROOMIE MEETUP IN CHICAGO. HOLLA! (only if you knew me in real life you’d know that i would never, ever actually use the word holla in a sentence. unless i was mocking something. or someone.)

but then i looked at my itinerary and realized that it was not meant to be. i was going to be BUSY from dawn til dusk. there would be no hooking up for me at all! (PS. Ali needs to stop wearing that damn necklace. i’m actually even wearing it today)

but Kristin was a trooper. she dared to leave the city limits to come and visit me in Oak Brook at the McDonald’s campus. and we hung out in the lobby of the hotel (i didn’t even offer her any libations for her efforts) and laughed like hyenas about nothing. about french fries. about me making a fool out of myself at the John Hancock building. about my corporate coach. and about  Josh Duggar’s wedding registry which oh my good god contains normal registry items like duvet covers and mixers and such but also has SIX kinds of jerky! and snickers bars! and M&Ms! and i want to know who bought them the ONE package of twizzlers when they clearly asked for FIVE??!?! i mean, really, the person couldn’t have sprung the extra 8 bucks and bought them the entire set of twizzlers they’d hoped for??

i’m totally buying Josh and Anna Duggar some twizzlers. anyone want to spring for the skittles?

my point is, i didn’t really think that some of the best friends i’d ever have would be people that i met online. i mean, Gwen DID meet her fiance on TWITTER, so i guess it DOES happen, right? (if you haven’t already read her story, read it…it’ll make you *swoon* i swear) and one of my other McDonald’s Moms Laura met her boyfriend on the internet. i guess saying you “met someone on the internet” is much less “oh my god, you met on JDate?!?!?!” nowadays, eh? (not that there’s anything wrong with that…)

okay. fine. enough incoherence. i’m off to find another coffee.

i may even drive the extra ten minutes to McDonald’s. i’m really hoping for a Tennesse Avenue piece today.

  1. I met my wife on the internet. In 1998! Before there were blogs, twitter or just about anything but porn.

And I think you get a pass on the coffee thing. Go back to Tim. He misses you.

  3. I knew someone who put Twizzlers on their registry and they got like a lifetime supply of Twizzlers because people bought them a normal gift and threw in a pack of Twizzlers for fun. I say that’s a pretty genius plan.

And I just love monopoly at MickeyD’s.

  7. That extra 12 minutes would cost as much gas as paying a little more for coffee, so if Tim’s is better, stick with them!

  8. Girlfriend, you are all over the place this morning. My mind is reeling from coffee talk, meet ups and twizzlers on a wedding registry?! You’re blowing my mind.

  14. You know that Josh and Anna have been married for like a month now, right? I figure she’s already pregnant at this point. I just hope she’s finally talked.

OMG, why can’t I stop watching things about the Duggars!! Why do I use their first names in conversation like I know them personally!?

Finally, a couple of my friends have met their spouse or significant other over the Internet. Of course, the guy one of my friends is seeing now is married, so there’s that nice side effect. Blech. I bet Josh Duggar won’t pull that kind of crap on Anna! Hell, they probably didn’t ask for a computer on their registry.

  16. Wow…. From Starbucks to McDonalds. Um, I’m not sure you should be telling anyone this. Unless you work on the TRENDINESS of McD’s cups…. They should up that ante….

What’s good about McD’s vs. Starbucks, though, is that McD’s has recycling at EVERY location. Starbucks does not (very BAD!).

You inspire me. Maybe I’ll make the switch after all. Right now, I’m working on switching from chai tea latte to TEA BAG. That’ll save me LOADS (of weight and muleh…).

Second- I look forward to hearing your adventures in McDonaldland.
Third- I rarely if ever, walk into a store and find a pair of pants Long enough for me. At least you can find cute pants that mostly fit. Being a tall girl myself (5′ 11.5″ flat foot) I long to try on a pair of pants at Macys, that touch my ankles. ahh… some day. Anyway, so the shorties have it tough, the tallies have it tough.

If there were thought bubbles in that photo, we would probably both be thinking the same thing about the weird front desk man who took the photo with your “film” camera.

I say stick with Tim’s for 12 minutes. I wouldn’t even walk 2 extra blocks to a better Dunkin Donuts when I word downtown.

Also, how can these people not know who the Duggars are????

Starbucks is overrated. Timmy’s, however, is good. Except that I don’t drink coffee. I’m comparing hot chocolate here.
